Thinking about changing from Sonic Blue to Red?

Scott have you turned to the dark side. Say it isn't so. From a graphic designers point of view, sonic blue is not purple. Man, I wish people would stop saying it is. Also, I see someone has a car that looks like mine now. Bummer. Anyway here is a colour sample just to add to the debate. Blue vs Purple. Come on people. If you insist Sonic Blue is purple then I am gonna start saying Torch Red is a dark shade of pink

The name Sonic "Blue" is really a misnomer in my opinion. In most lighting conditions, I see purple, not blue. If I buy blue, I want a real blue like True Blue or a nice, dark Midnight Blue.
I've had both the reds - a bright red 1992 GT (like Torch Red), and I currently have a 2002 three-stage Laser Red Tinted Clearcoat GT. Both reds are nice, the Torch is flashier but a little garish and sometimes cheap looking; the Redfire on the other hand looks fabulous all the time - the metallic gives it a bit of glimmer, and the color itself is both classy and sporty.
I'm curious to see what the 2006 colors (Colorado Red and Vista Blue) look like. My next car though is most likely going to be a Redfire/Tan convertible.
Bottom line is you need to buy what YOU like, but I say go with the Redfire!

Sonic Blue is NOT purple. Quit freaking people out who like the color but now are afraid they can't order it because it's a frilly lavender or something.
Because it is a very bright rich blue and has metallic flake in it, it will have an illusion of color shift, moving over a few degrees in the spectrum, which will give the impression of a dark purple. To force this illusion you have to look at it non directly or have very angular light reflecting off of it.
Lets lay this to rest already, if you don't like the color don't buy it but stop calling it purple.
As for the red goes the Redfire looks really amazing, Torch is nice but red is a weak pigment that has a higher fade rate than most colors.

How can anyone tell those of us that think it is purple what our own eyes do or do not see? I see a purplish blue. I am not going lie about what I see because others might be insecure in their decision to buy one. If they like it, they like it. I don't. Doesn't mean there is anything wrong with them liking. A lot people think torch red is too orangey. I like it and frankly could care less what others think. Just don't tell us what we do or don't see. I think we can decide that for ourselves.
Well my 97GT was Midnight atlantic blue, which is very close to Sonic Blue and does the same colour shift. I always got tons of compliments on the "blue" colour and had several people pull me over to get the colour code. That is why I went with the 05 Sonic blue. I love the colour, so if you think you see purple, fine, I see blue, after all, I know the difference
I have never seen a bigger debate than what this colour brings up. Wait, then again there is the fake cobra emblems or the V6 vs GT debates, those are always good ones to.
Well Scott, I am sure whatever you get you will be happy as the rest of us are.

If you are going to switch to a Red, I'd definitely go with Redfire. It looks much richer and deeper than the Torch.
I'll stick with sonic blue, its no problem if it looks bad when its dirty, i'll be sure mine never is.
