So I called my dealer last night.....

Just to check on my order, which was placed on 12/12. He told me that it isn't scheduled yet due to parts shortage for the GTAP. He asked me if I wanted him to do a search for a simular vehicle, so I told him to try but that it would have to be pretty close. I'm on the west coast and he said once it was built, it would probably be 3-4 weeks aafter that. Would you take a dealer stock car if it were you? I mean if it was pretty closlely equiped? I am getting impatient. Especially when I see one on the road! Thanks, Carl

NO!!! You'll regret it...wait it out....you'll go nuts but its all worth it!

If you want the options you want, have it built cuz you'll just be all ticked in the end. I know the wait is tough but they will (eventually) build a car for YOU, not for some kid to go pound on durring a test drive

Nah wait for it. It's hard but you would be amazed how much one thing missing will bug you. Hang in there Ford has a commodity hold system that really slow down the ordering process. I assume you ordered the 18' bullits? If you did that right there is holding the car up big time. All 18' wheels as of when I ordered were on commodity hold, meaning only a certain percentage of all Mustangs ordered can have certain options; and with most dealers wanting 18' wheels on their GT's you can see how things can get backed up. 3% for Fanblades and 1% for the bullits, in the bullits 1% is like saying "don't bother". I don't know about a shortage of GT Appearance package parts shortage though. I am sure someone can clear up what is on hold.

All the 18" bullits got allocatd to go to the new Shelby GT. Somewhere on here someone had a photo of a lot full of them at Shelby's facility waiting to be modified into the Shelby GT.

It can't be the GTAP holding you up, I ordered mine on the same day as you and it was delivered to the dealer in GA two weeks ago. I stuck with the normal painted 17s though...

It sucks.....but I would say ........WAIT. That's what I'm doing. I ordered mine in the first week of November. It came in Jan 13th but it had the wrong options. I was (and still am) frustrated and disappointed. But the people on this forum convinced me not to settle for the options I don't want and to re-order it. I'm 3 weeks into it now and counting.

Be patient.

I would let your dealer search around and see what's out there and report back to you. You still have the right of first refusal, and who knows what his search may turn up.....

In regard to the delay in production due to parts shortages-I went thru that after ordering my car (see signature for details). Dealer promised me 6-8 weeks and I got the car in 9 weeks. I'm not sure if I could have made changes to my order to get the car built faster since I already had my VIN before I found out about the delay in production.
In regard to delivery time-I got my car in 3 weeks from the day it was shipped, in other cases I remember someone getting their car in a week, while other had to wait longer for theirs.

If the 18" polished bullitts are holding up your order I would suggest going with standard wheels on the car and going aftermarket when you get the car. I have 18x10/18x9 deep-dish chrome bullitts on my car and I think they look better then the polished wheels ford offers.

I went thru the same situation with my car...living with the 'temporary delay in production' message every time I called the ERL, then coming here and seeing people that ordered AFTER I did with the SAME options getting their cars built and delivered while my order was on a delay.

Another thing to consider before deciding to accept a car found in dealer stock -vs- the car you ordered is price-
I got my car under x-plan back in 2004, but I had to order the car. If I had chosen a car in stock I would have had to pay an ADM as they wouldn't accept x-plan on cars in stock.
When I was faced with taking a car home off the lot (with less options then the one I ordered) and paying $5000 over MSRP -vs- waiting for the car I ordered at a price just over invoice I decided to wait for my car.
But in your case, if the dealer finds a car close to what you ordered and is willing to offer you the same deal then I would at least consider the offer...but it would have to be REAL close to what I ordered.

My dad got his GT out of dealer stock with the EXACT options he wanted, so he didnt have to order...and that was during the '06 Model year end clearence over Labor Day....it had some miles on it, mostly becuase they drove it here from Chicago...but hey...it all depends what you want...Personally, I think He got lucky...but maybe not

Update

Thanks for the replies. Here's what's going on. The dealer contacted his factory rep and "pushed him" on this order, (his words). The rep then told him it would be built within two weeks. I now think the real problem is that my order was a low priority number. He then called me and said he had a car with my options plus the Serius, and comfort pkg. Same deal, invoice plus 500. The car that's here is at another dealer though. I said I would take it. He said he would see if it's available and call me back. That was at 1:30. Still no call. If he calls tomorrow and says it's not available, I think I'll wait for my ordered car. I didn't get any wheel upgrade because I've already got after market wheels picked out. I'm going with American Racing Torq-thrust M, even though it'll cost me 240 extra bucks for the TPMS bands. I'll keep you posted. Carl

If you are planning on keeping this car for a long time, I agree with the others....hold out for the car you ordered. I ordered my car because I plan to keep it until I can't drive anymore. I should admit, however, that this is easy for me to say....I'm currently hunting for a home with a garage for my stang....so I'm in no rush to get it.

Wait, I know its hard now but you wont regret it. If you like another wheel option change the order and maybe that will get things rolling( no pun intended).

What's wrong with the pun? You should intend it, it was a good one.

I'm with everybody else - I ordered my 2005 GT just the way I wanted it. The wait was painful, but I have the car of my dreams!
