Yup thanks Kevin.

I guess I need to call the dealer either today or tomorrow.

So, basically, the only way to get it "bucked" is to reaffirm to the salesperson that you are still interested?
you have to make sure the dealer A. Orders the car and B. BUYS the car from Ford(week-24). Then you have to babysit the status.

even 05 foci/escape did not come out untill production started. Its pretty standard practice.

Guess that's why it's a "refundable Deposit"

Well now I think I will just go get likkered up and hide. All my eggs are in one basket. I absolutely have my heart set on getting a job 1 mustang(to keep, to keep from buying a car when the girl turns 16,to have a low # etc). I am already in daily contact with Ford, now I have to step that up? And green even! Not even a high demand one. CURSES
Do you think these cars will be plentiful in January? If I get worked, I want to know I will have a nice bday present to look forward to.

Just to add one thing about pricing:

If Ford were to publish prices tomorrow, it would not matter one bit!

The pricing is not really set until Ford invoices the car to the dealer ! !

I'm sure that you can confirm this Kevin. Whenever you order ANY vehicle from Ford, your pricing is not guaranteed as Ford can change the prices ant any time inbetween the order date and when the vehicle is actually built and invoiced.

for the most part, once the prices are out they are out. Its rare to ever change them, only in minor inflationary hikes throughout the year. As for the dealers changing their minds, thats another matter.

Here's my little adventure at the Ford dealer from earlier, and people who have 'pre-ordered' your Mustangs, grip your chairs, and notice the quotations.

With the guy who ive been talking to for a month in front of me, on his laptop, he went through the process with me step by step. I brought in an order guide (news to him, no one at his dealership had seen it before), he knew i was looking to order, and we went and sat down on his computer to see if the process was going.

The database (not FMCdealer, but the actual order thing that Ford uses, kevin should be able to help me out there, i cant remember the name, hit concepts, then type in the codes, etc) accepted all the codes on the order guide for the Mustang, showing the options that come standard, etc. HOWEVER, the order bank is/was not open, and a message pops up that says Job1 not in effect, order bank not available. Now, before you start screaming about how you got a confirmation order in hand, more bad news; ive got one too, and it didnt cost me $100-$500 to do it either.

I mentioned to him that some of the 'guys' have shown documentation, printed confirmation orders and such. He goes, like this? And prints the page, and hands it to me. Lists all the options, codes, etc, except pricing. But the bank isn't open, and he hasn't sent it, and i havent ordered a car, i just have this piece of paper that makes it look like i have. So if i were you guys who think you've pre-ordered the Stang of your dreams, come Tuesday when the order bank is due to open up, according to FMCdealer, id call my local dealer and be dang sure that they sent it into Ford, and got an official confirmation, not the printed page. If no one believes me, i'll scan or take a pic of my copy, but it's identical to what 2K3 had with his pre-order, to the T.

Like i said, the computer and database recognize the codes, and pop out the information, it just doesnt process it, or do anything with it. And if i'm Joe Dealer looking to get over, a few punches of the keyboard, it's printing something out, and you think you've got a pre-order, when all you have is a piece of paper. And he takes his sweet-**** time sending the order in, waits a couple months till his high-paying customers get theirs, and maybe you'll take a bite in the butt and pay higher, or grab a 2004 cuz you cant wait. Not saying this is the case in all scenarios, but Tuesday, id be on my dealer like white on rice to make sure the order's in and that Ford accepted it.

This is just in addition to what Kevin said, im just saying from my own experience, i watched every step the dealer went through on the computer (no login codes, sorry, lol) and saw the process with my very own eyes. Just don't want you guys getting shafted, just follow-up, and make sure everything's set when the order bank officially opens up (there's a reason it says 5/24/04 on the order guides people!!!) Just watch your backs.

And as for dealer misinformation/stupidity, i talked the manager, not a salesperson, but the manager, and he told me the earliest they'd be pre-ordering Mustangs for customers was July, and there's a line of people waiting. I'm like, well, i sorta heard otherwise, like say, next week, and mentioned what another dealer told me, and that story changed mighty quickly. Scumbags....

Hope this helps, and isn't discarded or ignored....

I have a question for you, kevinb... you say in 4 weeks, the dealerships will be buying the orders from Ford. Do you have a specific date that this will happen? Just curious on what day I need to be calling my dealer and hounding him to buy my car from Ford. By the way, I'm going in to meet my dealer today with the order guide and $500 to place the order. Or, at least get it into the dealer's system. The dealer says no need for a down-payment. But, the way I see it... give him a decent down-payment, it'll give him a reason to put me closer to the top of the list. Let him no I have something semi-invested here, so when it comes time to actually placing the order and buying it from Ford, he won't just pass me along for someone else. Along with me calling him every-other day. Plus, less to put down later. By the way, thanks kevinb and spiker for all the info... I will be using it all today.

yup

We would always require a deposit, even if it's someone ordering an 04 F150. Not only for "good faith" but it also makes sure it is not forgotten. Some of these dealers sound like they only sell 3 cars a month They make such a big deal out out of it. I personally dont care if I sell a "cheapie" to a friend or not(if they will let us work deals on these at first), one deal either way of 20-30 per month is not going to make me rich or poor

Kev... do you have any idea of the specific day that the dealerships will be buying the cars from Ford? I know you said in 4 weeks, but do you have a day I can mark on my calendar to call the dealer... or better yet go in and make sure they buy it from Ford?

Thanks for the info Kevin...!!!!

Geezus Guys...Now I really dont know what to do...Ive been soooooo looking forward to ordering my new Stang next week, but now with all the updated info, it seems like it really isnt going to matter much...

Kevin...in your opinion, do we really continue to be focused on trying to order next week, and leaving a 'good faith' deposit on a car that has no pricing....or do we just wait it out a little while and see what happens...and HOPE you can get a Stang...?? At this rate guys, we might not see our cars until around Thanksgiving or Xmas...Sheesshhhh...

There is plenty of time to order one. As for what day of the week, who knows they were off by 3 days for the order guide.

:nono:

I just got back in from lunch where I stopped by a dealership (Ted Britt Ford) here in the DC/VA/MD area, and was told that they didnt have any info on the '05 Stang and wouldnt until July. (???) I told the guy that I knew the order bank was open or would be opening on 5/24 and he again said...'come back in July'. I get back to work, and I have a mssg from another dealership in the area, and the guy is tellin me he has the order info, some new pics, interior/exterior color guides, and for me to come back up to see him today if possible, or give him a call...(shaking my head) Needless to say...guess you all know which dealership will be getting my business...If any of the info he has is anything new or something we havent already seen or talked about...I will scan & post or let you guys know what I hear...
