Replacement Clutch
Replacement Clutch
I have a 2008 Bullitt, when I bought the car in December she had around 37,000 miles. I've only put on around another 3,000 since. Anyways, to get to me question, I'm looking to buy a new clutch. The one in the car is fine, but I can tell it's getting ready to go. I don't make bank, so I'm trying to save now to buy the clutch and get it installed. Question is, which clutch do I go for? The car itself has a Steeda CAI, BBK Throttle Spacer, and Borla Cat backs. I know I don't need a super heavy duty clutch, but I'd like to buy one that will be pretty durable since I'm not the best stick shift driver. I don't plan on doing any other mods like a super charger (at least not till she's paid off
) to worry about excessive power but I might get a tune. I went on American Muscle and saw the Exedy clutch, it seems pretty good for the price. I can get a higher rated clutch with all the parts at the same price as the OE clutch.
Also, what should I look for in the kits when buying, such as the necessary parts? When I was on American Muscle, one kit was missing the slave cylinder the other kit has one. I want to be sure I have all the necessary things when I get it installed.

I have an Exedy 500 and it's been a good clutch and it did come with a slave cylinder. I also put a SS clutch line on for the higher pressure , it didn't cost anymore labor while doing the clutch install ...
I ran a centerforce, then exedy clutch in my '06 when I had the 3v in there but the stock clutch was always the best performer.
I was at around 400rwhp with the blower too so unless you drag race a lot I'd say keep the stock clutch.

Plus 3 on the Exedy 500. Went in my car about a month or so ago. Love it so far. Be aware OP that the pedal is a bit heavier than stock with the Exedy, but not too bad. Used to it now. Won't go back.....
My first question is why is the clutch bad with only ~40,000 miles? Has the car been tracked a lot? If you say it's "fine" now, how can you tell it's "getting ready to go?"
IF it does need a new clutch, I say go with the Exedy 500 as others have said.. just seems odd to me.

I can't comment on the type of clutch to go with but I will ask why you think it needs to be replaced at only 37k. I had to replace my clutch and flywheel at 50k because of TSB issue that was out of warranty. $1500 later I had a set of new brakes, new clutch, new flywheel and new engine seperator plate. Apparently the engine plate was rubbing on the flywheel and made a horrible metal on metal scraping sound on startup. I did the brakes because it was at 50k and I just wanted piece of mind so I got new pads on all 4 wheels and had the rotors done to be safe.
The clutch is still working, I don't know how the previous guy drove it. Basically, I'd rather buy a clutch now while I have the cash and wait till it goes and hopefully by that time have the money ready for install. In my last car was learning how to drive stick so I wore that clutch out pretty quick.
