Radar detector mount kit for 2005-up GT...
I've searched and couldn't find something similar to this:
http://www.vettemods.com/radarbracket-c6.htm
That is a really sweet setup that does not interfere with peripheral vision nor would it interfere with the visor operation.
Does anyone make something similar for the 05-up GT?? For $25-$30, I'd definitely buy one for the Escort 8500 / Bel Vector 995. The other mounts, IMHO, don't appeal to me due to minor problems (suction cups would fall off in -10F weather, rearview mount blocks a lot of my peripheral vision since I'm tall).

This one mounts to the mirror. It works well with my V1

If you have a strip of tint across the top of your windshield, does that interfere with the radar detector?

The radar detector won't be affected (radio waves will go through non-metallic tint just fine) but the laser detection will be affected (a non-issue IMHO).
AFAIK the GTs don't use metallic tint.

What about an added strip across the top of the windshield? Is most aftermarket tint metallic or non-metallic?
I read that lower on the windshield is better for picking up laser scatter, anyway, since they go for the front license plate or blinker.

I used a more stealthy solution that still lets me use the visors. I hardwired it and mounted the detector above the mirror. I used a strip of velcro on the top of the mirror/bottom of my V1, and then one small piece on the windshield and the detector where it touches the glass. Since the detector is sandwiched between the mirror and the overhead lighted console, it pretty much blends in and isn't noticeable. I also bought the V1 concealed display and mounted it under the guage cluster so there are no lights to show when it's operating. I posted a thread with pics if you're interested in seeing it installed.
Can I mount my detector on my sun visor?
We generally do not recommend mounting your detector on the sun visor because the dark tint at the top of most windshields significantly reduces laser detection range, which is the reason we do not include a visor mount as a standard accessory. We offer an optional visor mount for all of our current models that can be seen by clicking this visor clip link.
As a rule of thumb, a lower detector mounting position is better for laser and a higher position is better for radar. But, in most vehicles, the difference in height between the top and bottom of the windshield is not enough to make any perceptible difference in radar reception. It's best to mount your detector where it has a clear field of view front and rear, and where you can see it without obstructing your own view of the road.

The mount that Bill has looks like a clean setup, but my concerns with that design are:
Added mass which may cause added stress on the windshield mount, or drag down the rearview mirror while going over rough roads.
I'm not terribly concerned with laser detection because as we all know, once you get hit, it's over anyhow. The obvious solution is remote mounted laser detectors and a laser jamming system. However, the use of laser is rather restrictive IIRC: the cop has to be stationary and have a clear line of sight to the target (clear day, not rainy or foggy or hazy).

This has been said before, but I'm saying it again. You can pick up laser signals from people further up the road. It doesn't always work that way, and generally a laser alert means you're caught, but I have had multiple instances of getting a laser alert and then seeing the cop a few blocks up the road. (escort 8500x50)
This is why I won't mount to the mirror/roof. Are people doing this just so their detectors can't be seen by the cops? Around here so many people have detectors that I never worry about it. I drive with mine mounted right in the center of the windsheild, and I've had one for 5+ years - never a ticket and never a problem. A couple of times I've been pulled over at night and was able to pull down the detector before I think he saw it - got off with warnings both times.

Here's the link with the pics of my install. I know they're not illegal in most states but I like to keep it hidden to avoid any potential problems with cops and thieves. So far it's worked well and I'm happy. I used the same setup minus the concealed display in my truck.
