Thumbs up

I decided to order the perma press paint/interior/leather protection when I baught my car yesterday. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if it works or not, and what exactly they do to the car?

The dealership said it takes about 4-hours in service to apply everything to the leather and the paint. It was only 500$ and figured I would try it. It comes with a 5-year warranty against stains, spills, etc..

Buy a can of Scotchguard for the interior seats if you ordered cloth. $6 If you are going to clean and wax your car like we all do. Save the $494 for mods.

Has anyone actually tried it, or have any facts? Even if the product doesn't work, they still give you the warranty on paint stains, spills, etc.. If you spill a coke on your carpet supposidly the dealer will fix it

Aaron,

You might want to do a search, this has been discussed in the past and nearly everyone will tell you it is a dealer scam. What's a paint stain? If you spill something in your interior, clean it up. Sorry but you asked, this is bogus.

It's called common sense.

All they do is the same thing you would do. Those are not "magic" products they're are using. It's a well known profit center for a dealership and nothing more.

I suppose it comes down to what kind of person you are. If you are the type of person who likes the "comfort" of warrantee's/insurance against things that quite frankly are "maintainence" items then you'll probably find some value in these things.

If on the other hand you're the type of person who pays for things as they happen, then you'll see absolutely no value in these products.

You should also take a look at the fine print of the things that are covered by these products. Usually, you have to bring the car back to have the so called "super wax" reapplied....usually at some cost to you for the warranty to be valid.

I can guarantee you that if you spill something on the inside and it stains, they'll use whatever cleaner they have handy (or anyt solvent you can buy at PEP BOYS for $5) to clean it up....the same as you would do.

Save your $500. Buy some Scotchgard like others have said for the interior. Get a good wax. Put it on yourself. You'll do a better job and have mucho coin saved to put into your pocket.

My dealer threw in the paint protectant as part of the deal. I have found that the paint protectant seems to be worth while... I think its stopped the swirls caused by washing the car from happening in my black paint. I have washed it about 25 times without any swirl issues. I am super careful rinsing the sponge everydip in the buckets and I have waxed the car with meguires tech wax @ 15$ a can. Scotch guard is all you need for the carpets.

To each his own I would say. For me I have never purchased these products when buying a new car. Guess what never had any problems with exterior or interior. Just take care of your car. Washing and waxing that exterior, cleaning and protecting that interior with quality products will keep her right. Plus you will not spend $500.00 doing that for many many years, if ever over the life of the car.
Remember even if ya spend the $500.00 on the dealer stuff, you will still have to do the above regardless.

Hmmmmm.....I thought this protectant was called 'Perma-Plate'? That's what the entire pkg. was called at my local dealership, and I opted to pass on it.

Here it's called "Finishing Touch". The exterior is sealed with a teflon sealant. I had this done to my last car and never once had to wax it in 5 years. Of course I always kept it covered, as I will this one (I've got a special order coming for a fitted dust cover), but it was as shiney and smooth as the day I got it done. No fade, no oxidation, no hard water stain.......stuff like those da&n seagulls and their droppings come right off with no after marks....tree sap, tar. It was worth it to me. Got it done again on the new one. (they also told me it would take about 4 hours but I got it in early and they finished in an hour and a half)

The interior is done with a protectant that acts like scotch guard only better. Even oily stains wipe off. No fading or cracking......always looks new. Smells good too! (at least for a while )

Face it.........It's just one thing I don't have to do myself or worry about. But to each his own, right?!

I got it added to my car. Both the interior and exterior. But don't be taken, I paid $295 for it from the dealer.

Good Luck
