All,

I don't post very often because I usually don't have much important to say.

Knowing the Mustang will be produced and painted in the same plant that is pumping out the Mazda 6 and other vehicles, my brother-in-law just brought over his new Mazda 6 today for me to take a look at. Black Exterior, Black Interior.

I just sold my 1996 Cobra, Triple Black, so I'm familiar with the quality of Ford paint.

My Verdict: This Mazda 6 in black is completely covered in Orange peel. For the Love of God, I hope the finish on the new Mustang is better, or I wouldn't be purchasing black. My 1996 had a much nicer paint job.

This is merely my opinion, so don't shoot the messenger here, I'm merely sharing what I've seen firsthand...

Ive looked at a number of mazda 6 and thought paint looked pretty darn good. Also if the quality of mustang is close to 6 ,im thinking where all gonna be pretty happy.

800-600 of mazda 6

I have an '04 Mazda 6 and have absolutely no complaints about the paint. You can't judge the quality from just one sample. I belong to a Mazda 6 forum very similar to this one and I don't recall hearing complaints about paint.

I think the 6 has great paint. All the pre-pro mustangs are beautiful too.

ford has been building mustangs forever... and painting them too- i dont think they are dumb enough to mess up on something as important as the exterior look of the car- they know if they paint them crappy- then thats the first thing people see and wont be satisfied.... i dont think they'd cut corners on paint...

For sure...

every car can't be perfect, there are so many variables in painting, maybe that one was built on an off day.

There are (2) 2002 Cougars in my family (Built at AAI). Both have excellent build quality. As far as orange peel goes, one has orange peel that is worse than my 2001 Mustang GT, the other is better than my GT.

So I don't think that you can make a judgment based on a sample of 1 car.

I would question if that Mazda had any damage & or dealer repair work before it was delivered. A lot of new cars get touched up by dealers. Some are rather extensive.

Not making a judgement, but rather an observation. We'll all know soon enough when people start getting their cars... I hope I'm grossly mistaken!

It never ceases to amaze me about the nonexistent picks we nit here.

Ford's paint is just fine.

Besides, if you want it baby's butt smooth, you can always shoot some clearcoat on it and buff it down.

These *are* mass produced cars you know, some peel is going to happen. If it's too much peel for ya, ask the dealer to knock it down. I'm sure they will, and be happy to do it too. Well, mostly happy.
