Torch Red? Vin says paint code is D3 ( 2006 )
Hi, just joined here. We needed a 2nd car and had considered a reliable Corolla. But decided that was too boring. So we now have a 2006 4.0 V6 with automatic -- pretty stock. The vin ( 1ZVFT80N365149975 ) indicates Torch Red D3 ( but some sites show Colorado Red ). I will need a bit of touch up paint for some tiny dings in the paint.
I got the paperwork from the seller on a transmission replacement done in 2013 ( local reputable shop ). Even so, once in a while you have to move the shifter to reverse twice to get it into reverse. Going to have the dealer do tranny service since that rebuild was 25k miles ago.

As this is your first post, let me welcome you to The Mustang Source!
That's Torch Red. Don't know anything about Colorado Red, unless it was a dealer special or something. Only two "official" red colors from the factory in 2006 were Redfire (darker metallic) and Torch Red (the bright flat color).

As for your statement about the only 2 official red colors from the factory being Redfire and Torch Red ? Those are referred to as Ford factory model colors, however the official paint color itself according to the D3 paint code.. IS COLORADO RED therefore it is NOT some dealer special color as you posted..
All body shops including Ford dealerships refer to the actual paint color by the paint codes and not by model color.. Therefore whenever your searching for touch up paint at your local auto zone or whatever ? They always ask what your factory paint code is and as soon as you provide them with your D3 code, it will be listed as COLORADO RED and not Torch Red, as paint/body shops don't go by model color names..

Thanks for that. There is a really short of fix-it items on this car ( 89k miles ). touch up paint, right rear turn signal bulb ( all six taillights work, but far right bulb doesn't light up for turn signal or brakes ). And the occasional repeat effort needed to get into reverse, but that should probably be in another forum

In regards to the color, she's definitely Torch Red! My girlfriend has a 2007 GT in this exact color and we love it!
Are you planning on keeping this 'Stang stock or are you going to add a few things?

I can see improving some performance items, starting with biggest bang for the buck. Which I've heard is intake and exhaust. For now I'm just getting fluid changes, and basic checkout ( bulb out, occasional reluctance to go into reverse, etc )

Ask any Ford dealership's body shop dept and they will tell you the D3 paint code is Colorado Red.. Torch red is the common name used by the factory just as Race Red is now but is pretty much the same color as Torch Red..

Hey there Jon! I also thought at first the official color was Torch Red, however shortly after my Mustang was side swiped by an irresponsible person last year, my local Ford dealership had to replace my passenger's side front fender which also included having to repaint my front valance... So, it was then when I found out from the body shop tech at the dealership who informed me, they go by the factory paint code when it comes to repainting... Needless to say, that was when I discovered the official color is indeed Colorado Red via the factory D3 paint code...
Unfortunately, I found this out from personal experience which wasn't a very pleasant one at that to say the very least...
At any rate, Torch Red was just the common name used by the factory until they changed it to what is now called Race Red, although it might be a different code/color shade, but I don't know that for certain though...
However, IMHO it still looks pretty identical to Torch Red/Colorado Red as far as I'm concerned

Welcome to TMS. As to touchup - a friend who has a Honda S2000 just tried Chipex (www.chipex.com) and says it's great. I haven't tried it yet but plan to.
