Ordering a new car, anything I should know?

OK, well I had ordered my 2005 V6 in Oct of 2004 when new body style came out. After three years of modding her and being happy where I was with it, I totaled the car. So now I'm in the market of buying a GT, but I can't find one with the options I want, so I guess I will be orderign it again. Anyone have any opinions on anything or best way to get the best price? Last time I was able to get an X plan # but dealers woudl not take them on GT's, is this still the trend? Also, what is the turnaround time now from order until the car comes in?
Any help is appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your poor ole '05.

Well I'm in the process of buying off the lot right now. Mustang sales are down from past two years a bit and I had no problems getting the dealer to take x-plan pricing. From what I hear there are a few lucky people getting Bullitt's on x-plan, regular GTs should be no problem at all.

One thing to consider is that 2010 is going to be an update year. That's not that far away - summer of 2009. I'm not sure if Ford's doing anything for the '09 model year or saving it up for '10, if you order you could be getting an '08 only a couple months before the '09s hit the street....

I'd imagine more concrete info on model year '09 will be available late January (Detroit auto show) and early February (Chicago auto show).

Got my 07 GT on the xplan, strange that a dealer would not accept it in your case. Try a different dealer on your next purchase.
I also got all the incentives at the time my car came in.

X-plan is commonplace for Mustang GT's. I work for a dealership that does hundreds of plan sales every year, including GT's and even GT/CS's. You should be able to get X-plan at most dealers on a new GT nowadays (assuming you are eligible for X-plan).

Even our customers that aren't X-plan can special order a new Mustang V6 for $299 over invoice, or a new Mustang GT for $599 over invoice. We have new 08 GT's sitting on our lot now that have been marked down to invoice (or even less!), so it's definitely a buyer's market right now. There are other dealers on this website that have quoted $500 over invoice (or less) for GT's, so don't even think about paying anything close to MSRP on a garden variety GT.

A typical special ordered GT with 17" wheels takes about 6-8 weeks to be built and shipped. Order it with 18" wheels and there are still constraints on those that could push the order ETA to about 10-12 weeks.

Go into several different dealers, tell them what you want, and what you will pay. Leave your phone# and WALK AWAY. Within two weeks they will all call you back with some sort of deal. That's a good place to start.

Hey bud, if you want any help with what the price will be with the options you want on an order, PM me the options you want, and the color and transmission. I'll be happy to price it out for you and either fax you the VOC I printed out. This way, you will have the pricing and know what it should be when you go into a dealer. And like its been mentioned, I can't imagine a dealer not taking X-Plan on a Mustang GT. Heck, I sold several to forum members with X-Plan and one in particular came all the way down from Bethpage NY to pick up the car. Let me know if I can be of assistance.

I just did my first test drive and will be ordering in late February. No problem here ordering a loaded GT/CS with an X-Plan price!

What base price do you have for the GT coupe Premium? Fords website is showing $27,020 but my dealer is showing $27,260. All my options prices do match.

He is talking about October 2004. I couldn't find any dealer to honor X plan on a GT in fall of 2004, thus the reason I didn't buy until summer 2005.

Well started shopping around today. Closest dealership to me said they will "allowe" me to use X plan on an ordered car, but as per Fords rles, I need to pay a $150 charge. BS or not? Even though the guy read it from a computer, I think so.

Cut and pasted from the Ford Partner website:

Document Fees
  • Dealers will be permitted to assess up to $75 in documentary fees on each delivery to an eligible purchaser under the terms of the plan, unless otherwise provided by state or local laws or regulation. Each dealer is responsible for complying with applicable laws or regulations.
  • Unless otherwise provided by state or local laws or regulation: In states where dealers are not permitted to charge as much as $75 for doc fees, dealers would be capped at the lesser amount as provided by the state. In states that permitted more than $75, dealers would be permitted to charge the Plan customer $75. In states that permitted more than $75 and also required that all customers be charged the same amount, dealers may charge the Plan customer $75 and indicate any additional fees have been paid by Ford Motor Company as part of the AXZD-Plan Program dealer reimbursement on the buyer's order.

Ford changes pricing every quarter. The newest price change was dated Dec 26th, 2007 and should be in effect by Jan 2nd, 2008. The Ford website is not up to date yet, apparently, even though Ford's ordering system (CONCEPS) is updated for dealers already.

Man, we are in the same boat. I totalled my 05 Gt in December on a rainy night. I will be looking at a GT/CS in the next month or two. Lemme know how your search goes.

He ordered in 04. Lots of dealers were not taking X-plan back then.
