Unhappy

I went in to a local Blue Oval dealer and ordered my baby, after shopping most of the local dealerships in New Jersey and finally getting $500 under MSRP (which I still think was a good deal). The salesman seemed to indicate an average wait of 3-6 months depending on options, but since I went with no IUP, MyColor, or spoiler. I assumed that this would make my order arrive a bit faster. The salesman even gave me a 3-month depreciation estimate for my trade-in.

However when the finance manager came over and reviewed the order invoice, and AFTER I SIGNED IT, he said "you'll probably see the car in about a year". I was floored and looked back at the salesman with shock. After the finance guy left, I questioned the salesman and he said "probably closer to 3 months/12 weeks). I read another post here that said Ford factory reps were claiming that no orders should be taking longer than 6-8 weeks from order to delivery, and that longer delays are probably due to the dealer.

I have a signed order invoice from 2/17/05, so I think my price level should be locked at 540 (and not at 555 which went into effect on the 18th), but I've checked the VOPC and it has no status information on my order (yet). How long does it take to show up in VOPC?

Who should I believe?

A giant red flag just went up in my head. I didn’t have to read anymore, although I did. It could take forever to get the car if the dealership wants it to. I would say get out if you still can; they are going to give you priority 98 or something. Or not even enter you in for a couple of months until you get on their nerves.

It doesn't sound like the dealer really wants your business. Pull out while you still can and go find a dealer that will do anything for you. You're definately getting hose on trade-in. The first dealer I went to wanted to depriciate my trade by 2 or 3 months. I found another dealer that locked in the trade value that my car was at on the day I ordered. It then took over 2 1/2 months to get my new car and my trade-in depriciated by about $1,100. They stuck to their word and gave me the locked in price and I made $1,100 on my trade. Which turned out to be about $2,000 more than what the first dealer was trying to lock me in at. Don't be satisfied with $500 over Invoice and then let them bend you over on the trade.

I'd like to know what dealership you ordered from too - As I plan to order this weekend from a NJ dealer (have a few on my list)

Also - can anyone tell me what dealers are good or no good in NJ to deal with ? I bought a 93 Probe GT from Mahwah Ford in 93' - but that was a long time ago.

Oasis
Fette
Verner-Cadby
Wayne Ford
Stadium
Mahwah
Dayton Ford

any feedback would help !

I ordered from Flemington Ford in Central NJ.

Still, the sales guy I've been working with has been pretty good at keeping in touch with me via email and phone, in fact after I questioned him about he factory delays and allocation he called me to tell me "Ford has stepped up production" and that "we definitely have allocation for your Mustang".

I'm thinking the finance guy who came over doesn't know the first thing about Mustangs other than the fact that they are a b#*$@ to order.

I also requested the spoiler delete 4 days after my initial order, and the sales guy emailed me right back to tell me "he had updated my order in the system".

But still, is there a lag between the intial order and showing up in the VOPC?

Well personally I think EVERYONE gets hosed on a dealer trade in, considering no dealer would ever give anyone more than 70% of the blue book retail value. It just doesn't pay to trade in to a dealer unless the trade-in is nearly worthless and you need to knock a few bucks off the tax.

Also, I asked my rep if I was locked in at price level 540 and he said "yes"....that seemed to indicate that my order WAS PLACED!! Right??!??@?@ ANYBODY???

Grond The Hammer,

I ordered my '05 Mustang GT on 1/5/05, it was built on 2/14/05, and I picked it up last Saturday 2/19/05.

As you can see by my sig. I have both IUP & ICAP, this dealer is giving you alot of B.S.

I'd go somewhere else, I think Karpro is in Jersey he can probably help you.

Good luck.

Dark Horse, I think you are the exception, not the rule. honestly though, if everyone got your turn-around then half of these threads wouldn't exhist and my exhaust would have a purpose other than sitting in my living room. Well, it will make it to the garage as soon as I get home....

Dark Horse is definitely the exception. There are plenty of Nov/Dec orders still at C/U. The lucky ones from Nov/Dec are serialized and have a build date (or already have their '05).

I could be wrong, but I'd say that Dark Horse is the only TMS member who ordered in January and already has the car.

I've been trying to get an order in with a z-plan in jersey since november but no one is taking my order. I've gone to Dayton Ford but they didn't even want to talk to me and the people there didn't seem to smart to me. Does anybody know a dealer that will take the z-plan?

I ordered mine on Jan. 3 and received a build date the next day for the week of Jan. 10 and the car came in on Jan. 20, and two other guys that ordered a week before me received there's before the end of Jan. It was a lot quicked than when I ordered my 1986 GT, it took a little over 3 months to get it.

2005 Mustang GT
Black, IUP, Bullit rims
Black leather, 5 speed

I have gone to a few on your list. I have noticed most of the dealers in NJ have sold out their alloted GT's(though I maybe wrong). Unless someone backs out of a car, you may end up on a waiting list to get it placed or infact get a car that was for stock and then they charge that BS Dealer Special Inventory charge of 3-4K if they have one. Just be patient and make sure you get what you want. Good Luck!
