Not all liberal ideas are good. Not all conservative values have merit. And of course, the reverse is true as well.
Reality is always somewhere in the middle. But nobody plays in the middle anymore...and consequently people get disenfranchised by the resulting polarization.
As to the implied lesbian scene in Knight Rider, it didn't bother me on its own. What bothered me is that it was gratuitously placed there to titillate males who fantasize about girl-on-girl action. Mike in bed with two chicks was intended to do the same thing. And the lesbian showering outside on the beach was an extension of that titillation as well.
It was calculated, as opposed to being part of the story, which is what I found disgusting.
Now, if that had been an episode of The L Word, it would have all made perfect sense, and I could have accepted it (and one can choose whether or not they want to watch The L Word).
But it had no reason to be in the Knight Rider pilot, other than to hook young male viewers.

Remember that each side has its own (sometimes erroneous) cliched view of the other. It's a two way street.

Politician: "Well, the Republicans are going to vote Yes on this measure to save the state $2 Billion with no negative side effects. I'm voting No, because the Republicans are voting Yes."
Joe Constituent: "But it's a good measure, no negative side effects, and everyone wins."
Politician: "True...but the Republicans are voting Yes on it, so I have to be against it."
So.. uh... when did this become a political discussion? I know it is an election year and all, but really, how did we get from Knight Rider to Democrats v. Republicans?
As far as the "movie" was concerned, it could have been a LOT better. But, I think everyone was treading a VERY fine line. It is like they wanted to test the waters to see the reaction they got first, before they really tried to make a good show -- keep budgets done somewhat by limiting the cool/complex chase scenes; keep the plot simple and easy to follow, yet try to explain the 25 year absence of a KITT, put as many beauty shots of Ford cars (like the super-handling, as-fast-as-a-GT500 Edge
) so Ford would pick up much of the bill, etc.
I am not saying it was the best approach, but it could have been worse. Of course, it could have been a lot better as well.
Also, Val Kilmer sounds quite feminine for a beefed up Mustang.
More like an S2000.

Well, let's see if NBC brings it back as a series in August-or drops it like a hot potato! Biggest problem I saw was that it was in production when the writer's strike started-and we all know what that means-some idiot at the corporate level thought he or she could finish writing the show.
Bad idea, NBC-show could have been WAY better!!!

Tell me why? Why is it that we should feel that we should settle for substandard trash that they "think" will entertain us? When did it become a mandate that we should not expect any sort of quality from producers and TV networks? I don't think it is too much to ask to expect some form of even midly entertaining television to be produced....most everything that was poorly done in this show could have been fixed by using simple common sense or even by following a similar pattern the original show did only updated 20 years.
There is another show that they put out where some guy would wake up the dead by touching them....That was far worse than this movie but it made production and that was before the strike.....TV Executives seem to have very poor judgement when it comes to what they think is "quality" television. At the same time there are good shows....I find 24 entertaining and realistic to a point...something that keeps you interested and when the show ends you think "I can't wait until next week".....Knight Rider left me thinking "I can't wait until this is over" within a few minutes of starting to watch it....the "ONLY" reason I watched it was because nothing else was on and I knew it would be discussed here so I figured I would watch it so that I could participate in the conversation.
Let's not focus too much on the "realism" of a show where the premise is a talking car. Suspend belief and enjoy it. Now I would be upset if this was at the show and I paid for it but it wasn't, it was on TV.
I'm sorry but I could not find any Enjoyment in it....a cars appearance or the them of using a specific car can only go so far and cannot alone support an arguement for calling a show "good". I am not "upset" by any means but I am not going to follow along with a charade of even remotely calling anything enjoyable or good about this show. There was a LOT of hype about this show....and that made the let down even greater. If the producers are going to Hype it up at every opportunity then we have the right to shoot it down and call it what it is as a response. If you let them think this is acceptable or even remotely "enjoyable" then guess what?....they are going to continue to make programs just like this over and over again. Lower the standard....get low quality.....raise the standard....get better quality.
Exaclty $0.00 of your cable or satelite bill is sent to NBC. You only 'pay' for NBC content by watching the sponsors commercials. The $$ you pay your cable company is for the privilege of not mounting an antenna on your home. A service, not for the content.
The plot line was pretty lame, but it was far better than most TV these last few weeks due to the writer's strike. I am SICK of stupid game shows, 'reality tv' that is anything but and american idol knock offs...
As bad as this was, it was entertaining and much better than American Gladiators that occupied dead air space in the time slot ahead of it.

I'm not upset either, and I'll admit there were things about it that bothered me. I'm just not taking it that seriously that's all. I'll tell you what, the acting was subpar and all but I'll take that "movie" over any of that "reality" crap that they keep throwing on TV. That's the lowest standard possible IMO with very few exceptions. As far as paying for it, yeah I have satelite too I just meant this was on network TV. You get NBC whether you have cable or not. All this stuff I spew is just opinion that's all. I liked it, that's all I'm saying. I wasn't trying to start up anything. Enjoyment is relative I guess.

I don't care if None of my money actually goes to NBC....I pay for Satelite because mounting an antenna on my house would net me MAYBE 3 TV stations. Regardless of who gets the money, I pay to have the service and as far as I am concerned that is enough. Now I don't HAVE to watch what they put on but if they want to satisfy their advertisers by getting the ad VIEWED then they had better come up with some decent programming that WE are willing to watch.
Of Course "Entertainment" is going to be in the eye of the veiwer but American Gladiators did not solicite me as a Mustang Enthusiast to view their program....I knew what I could expect from that show by the advertisment and chose not to watch it.....THIS show however was not only hyped to the original Knight Rider fans, it was hyped to Ford and Mustang Enthusiasts and it was hyped A LOT....so in that aspect I feel robbed. I was targeted with advertisments that implied this would be good entertainment and was let down....I was drawn in as a Mustang Enthusiast and I am sorry but I need more than a flashy car on the screen to be "entertained"...While it is nice to see the Mustang get exposure I am not going to act grateful just because they used it....The Camaro got FAR better "press" with the Transformers movie which was FAR more entertaining...granted it was a far larger budget and a major movie but that's not the point. Pontiac had a made for TV movie using the GTO and it wasn't the greatest movie but it had a plot and held my interest....I didn't feel it was a masterpiece but I also didn't feel that I had just lost a moment of my life never to be recovered either.
Bottom line, if you are going to solicite a group of car fans or even Star Trek fans for that matter with advertisements and hype....you NEED to deliver something with substance....and this was just a let down plain and simple.

Knight Rider is listed, but only has 52 ratings so far, which I guess is not enough for them to average.
