Official Knight Rider Movie Thread
+1 .... This killed me. I lasted an hour before I started falling asleep....DVR'ed it, might watch hour two later....
I thought the whole thing sucked. My 7 year old had been seeing the comemrcials and I really thought it would be sorta kid friendly. My wife and I agreed to let him stay up and watch it (he's interested in Mustangs so we thought we'd encourage that). I wasn't shocked that they showed the girl in the FBI agent's bed, but I sure as hell thought it was in poor taste. At least when they showed Michael in bed with not one, but two women it was a hetrosexual scene, but still in poor taste. I couldn't even enjoy the car scenes that much because it was so freakin cheesy. I hope it bombed. I hope the series never gets off the ground. I hope NBC lost their a$$ on it.
I enjoyed it. The car chase scene did bother me but not enough to not watch it. The acting was cheesy but no where near as bad as the original. The first movie was a pontiac commercial so I expected this to be a Ford commercial. Especially since every Knight Rider commerical ended with "Powered by Ford". I hope it does become a series.
KITT was NOT trying to outrun the guys in the Edge. He was only trying to stay ahead of them without letting them catch him. To go faster would mean they would get injured or killed. Kitt mentioned that he was doing this as he was programmed rather than risking injury or death to the persuers.
Since most of America it seemed missed that point in the dialog, I think the attempt at plot was lost on its audience.

I loved it!
You get:
1). Lesbians
2). Hot women
3). FN P90 sub-machine guns / PDWs
4). Copious S197 pr0n
5). dubbed in blower whine
Anyone else notice the crossover with the Monticetto from "Las Vegas"? The parking deck set looked the same as the one they use for "Las Vegas".
What I didn't like:
1). Val Kilmer's impersonation of HAL - KITT sounds too robotic.
2). Nanite self-repairing armor... anyone else remember the show, "Viper" ?? The Viper would change its skin for attack mode and could camouflage itself... I recall a RPG hitting the driver's door of the Viper and you could see the "damage". The skin would then repair itself... sort of like the 2008 KITT.
3). The funky steering wheel. Not only is it not street legal, it serves no purpose other than to look "different".
4). The original KITT was a 2+2 seater. Why did they make it into a 2 seater?
5). Solar power and gasoline with an incredibly high fuel economy while sustaining over 200 mph for 3 hours straight... Come on... give me a break. They might as well have said it uses a cold fusion reactor.
6). The P90 has hardly any recoil, so why did Sarah fire the P90 like it had an ungodly amount of recoil and muzzle climb? You could fire 2 P90s full auto akimbo without any significant climb or recoil. My PS90 shoots like it is firing .22LR (pop pop pop).

I actually agree with all your other points except the obvious contradiction in the ones above.
So the show's "adult content" is inappropriate, but ***** Cheney's actions over the past eight years somehow is...?
The show's adult content was hardly very adult, but it was definitely supposed to be titillating for its own sake; a marketing ploy to young adult males which was more tangential to the plot than truly offensive.

I guess I was trying to make two points at once, without necessarily making them well.
1. The "adult content" was more about adult situations. I know its 25 years later, but from what I remember there was no issue with the original series for an 8 or 12 year old. My children who love my black mustang were excited to see the show, and it started at 8:00pm in my time zone. Within the first few scenes it was very apparent to me that NBC/GE was after the 18-35 male demographic as you have said and that was that. These are very quick scenes that just fly over our heads without a second thought, but for a child like my 12 year old I can instantly tell from her reaction of leaving the room that it bothered her. Is she extremely modest? Yes. But I don't need this crap from network TV at 8:00pm. So the kids are now gone and they won't be watching again, but after seeing the story and acting I won't be watching either.
2. Hollywood scripts and writers are so typical. There must be some secret formula posted in the studio hallways that instructs them to the following:
All government intelligence and military agencies are evil.
Local law enforcement, especially hillbilly sheriffs can easily be bribed by bad guys.
FBI and CIA are bad, but if the agent is lesbian they are definitely completely trustworthy.
Always include as much enivronmental crap as possible.
Overlook obvious details that would make other scenes useless:
Obvious details overlooked. If a car uses nanobots on its skin to make it change appearance and colors, instead of making the car purple, or black, just make it cloak and display the background on its surface, wouldn't this be logical?
I did get the car scene, KITT didn't want to unnecisarily risk civilian lives, including the idiots chasing him. But come on, this is over thinking it, a chase scene between a Focus and a GT500KR would last about 15 seconds, this way they had a chance to show a lot of shots of the car accelerating around other ford cars, the only thing that could chase KITT in normal mode would be a ZR1? Z06? Ferrari? 911 GT2? Not a single other Ford.
As to "*****" Cheney, I'm not defending him or accusing him, I did vote for him and Bush twice as the lesser of two evils, but all Hollywood scripts must blame the following: Republicans (presidents, vice presidents, voters), Conservatives, southerners, Texans, small town sheriffs, most white men, any minority which is Republican, all private military contractors, christians, the defense industry, talk radio, and anyone in the "fly over" states who doesn't agree with their liberal, socialist, green agenda.
According to Hollywood, writers must never, ever, ever make villains out of the following types of characters in their scripts: Middle Easterners, Muslims*, homosexuals, liberals, environmental radicals, Democratic politicians, and female presidents portrayed in any of their shows or movies.
*Excepting "24", but if writing bad guys for "24" you can include Muslims, but only if they work for a "white" Russian, someone from the U.S. government trying to start a war against Muslims, and someone from big business to profit from it.
I believe the implied sex scenes were not necessary. My impression was Carrie (the FBI agent) had picked up the blond the night before. The threesome scene would have been just as effective with one woman to show he is heterosexual.
Maybe the writers want to keep the door open for a future love triangle with a plot twist--instead of the two leading ladies competing for the man, the Carrie and Mike will be vying for the affection of Sarah (Deanna Russo)....

I heard KITT say that too. Still doesn't justify the Edge keeping up with the Cobra. If KITT didn't want to risk lives, just put the car in Park. The nanotechnology would repair any damage from bullets or even a bomb. Also, KITT didn't have a problem hurting the bad guys at the end of the show....
No, I liked it too.
It's not Emmy material, and there are plenty of plot holes (how does the SUV ram into Kitt and stop dead, and all the passengers aren't killed?), but it's entertaining and you can't beat the car. If only all of ours were indestructable like that!
I had forgotten about it and turned it on about 30 minutes into it.....I can't believe I watched until the end....that was 90 minutes of my life I will never get back and was a total waste. The car looked ridiculous with that wing, the acting was so bad I thought I was watching an 80's show and there wasn't a single realistic thing in the entire movie....especially the crashed suburban near the end.
I'd rather watch re-runs of the A-team as a "new" show than watch this garbage again.....While the A-team acting is bad as well it has a heck of a lot more substance than this show.
