I wonder if Chevy has found an opel or holden coupe to add a new facia too to call the camaro yet I still have my rendition from the first batch of photoshops for our elder members here:

And I'll bet my paycheck that you won't be able to drive any other V8 pony car out of the showroom for $26K!
I'll be taking your paycheck then... J/K!!! Seriously though, if that were really the case, I'd have had a new Mustang a long time ago already, let alone "any other V8 pony car". IMO, there will be another muscle car war, it'll just be too expensive for the younger people to participate - looks more like it's aimed at the people who were part of the first one and can afford to relive their past glory again. That is all.

A GT is not an expensive car. A base GT is less then most accords or camrys, and most of the 'pocket rockets' now match or exceed its cost. Let alone any SUV or minivan is much more expensive.

A base, minimally optioned GT was all I wanted, but the local Ford dealers don't know that it's supposed to cost less than the vehicles you mentioned, and they never will. Kind of explains why there's more of those 'pocket rockets' in the hands of younger drivers compared to the avg. age of the S197 Mustang GT drivers I see/know. Came pretty close to buying a WRX TR and even briefly considered a GTI or the MS3, luckily reason prevailed and I decided on staying with a Mustang!

I'm not quite sure what you are saying. What are you disagreeing with?

I got a fully loaded GT for $28K. Without the options, I could have hit $26K, maybe less - about the same as an Accord. Relatively speaking, that's as good as it was back in the day of the original muscle/pony cars. (I remember those days well )

I'm not saying that all young people can afford a muscle car, but if you CAN afford a new car, in all likelyhood, you could afford a Mustang GT. I also said that you'll be able to get a Mustang for less money than a Camaro or Challenger.

What's this about "reliving past glory"? Lots of younger folks are buying Mustangs. Haven't you noticed?

Just saying getting a Mustang GT "out of the showroom for $26K" is not possible where I'm from. Things are different on "the rock". I wasted 2 years asking around trying to order one - the only options I wanted was IUP, AAT, and spoiler delete (and 3.55's for MY '07) - tried for $500 ~ $1000 under (and then even at) MSRP. No dice - and they STILL have AMV's out here - the Subaru WRX TR and VW GTI I briefly considered didn't have any attached.
$28K is what I've been quoted for what I wanted to order (on a Deluxe GT). One would think 25-30% cash down would've been enough to get them to deal - nope. As I've noted before, the majority of the owners I've seen on the roads out here are older drivers (mid-30's +). If any are in their 20's, most likely they are active military (base sticker on the windshield), got the car from out-of-state, or bit the bullet and paid whatever the dealer asked above MSRP. I will not do that.
I know Ford dealers aren't the only ones who do this, but who else makes the Mustang? Those family sedans at a similar price point are not even on the radar... (sigh) Hope this sheds a bit more light on my POV.
