Yes the GTO is out there but not really on the same level as the Mustang again. I got to say IMO that FORD is really the only one in the ring let alone the first punch. Well see how it plays out but it is fun right now isn't it?

This is all too funny. I took a step in memory lane last night and watch Smokey and the bandit. Haven't seen it in years. I loved the movie as a kid so I thought I have my three kids watch it now. They really liked it. I always wanted a TA after that show. Or, maybe I just need 'Frog' to ride around with me in my Mustang!!!
Well, according to the topin in "other cars" thread, GM has announced that they have suspended all other rear-wheel drive models that they had plans for. Only Camaro and G8 are still definite, but everything else has been put on hold.

I wlays wanted a T/A after that and ended up owning 3. I think Id rather see the T/A come back than the Camaro but im biased. Regardless its still a timeless classic movie.
Well as soon as the "global warming" people start lobbying for 50 mpg cars we might not see many more muscle cars being made.
I wouldn't be surprised to see 55 mph speed limits again! Just my 2 cents~

I heard that GM wanted a firebird, and camaro to come out for 07 (obviously already pushed back to atleast 08) and decided they didn't want to have 2 unveils in the same year like that because numbers would be down on 1 of them. Personally I like the idea of having competitiopn only makes our beloved's that much better to keep competing.
although it would make sense to have that as the firebird since it appears to be the camaro underneth the hood and grill and maybe rear lights(sorry not a GM fan so I don't like to sit and star at differences)
The new musclecar war is certainly going to be interesting. The Mustang has nothing to sweat. My May 07 issue of Motor Trend has an article called, "10 Hip Rides Your Pocket Will Love" Our beloved Stang in C/S form was in it and the last paragraph said it best and I quote: "Soon two of the Mustangs original sparring partners will return to the market, and early indications are that they may be superior vehicles, boasting more power, refinement, space, style, etc. How much you wanna bet the original pony still puts 'em all on the trailer, saleswise?" unquote. I couldn't agree more..
I think the more performance cars out there, the better. Competition keeps manufacturers on their toes. (At least it should.)
But I also think that Ford will be making the Mustang long after the Camaro, Challenger and Firebird (if it ever hatches) have ceased production...once again
.
And I'll bet my paycheck that you won't be able to drive any other V8 pony car out of the showroom for $26K!

GM has stated that they will not do a firebird. It makes sense to me. There is just not enough to support a camaro and a firebird and a GTO. There wasnt in the 60's really which is partially why the goat died to begin with.
The camaro will be the mustang fighter. To me, the GTO should be a slightly larger, slightly upscale coupe in the 35-40K range loaded that is pushing 450 hp or so and can keep up with a std vette and easily kill a std GT mustang.
If history is to repeat itself that is.
Back in the 60's, a mustang buyer did not want a gto, and vice versa. The GTO was a very upscale car made more for twenty something buisiness men who wanted quick cars that could be equipped with all the goodies or be ordered as a street fighter. Yet did not want a stodgy old or buick.
The kiddies wanted the camaros and chevelles since they were cheap, cool and fast.

well those first pictures certainly look almost identical to the concept camaro, what good is that, just has a few differences but body almost the same. so if they were to do that sure is tacky. Color combos shown are awful.
