In the I believe new issue or if not last months issue I saw at walmart of CAR CRAFT magazine I saw an interesting rumor in their facts and rumors colum. It said Rumor John Force may have a 2005 Mustang body on his funny car as early as one of the races in April. I think Bristol.

I cannt wait to order a diecast of that.

Well, the way those funny car bodies are contorted I don't know if you would be able to tell if it was a Mustang or a real horse .

Yeah, sort of like NASCAR and a lot of other racing where the race cars are so far removed from the actual street cars that any relationship is pretty much meaningless. While the pure race cars can obviously go faster, I find/found it much more interesting when, back in the '60's, the NASCARs were basically just modded version of what you could drive off the dealers showroom floor.

If NASCAR returned to that, I'd be a lot more interested in it as it would have more relevance to what's on the street and maybe even push the manufacturers to offer higher performance models as a result, like in the '60's (where do you think the Boss 429 and its motor came from?)

I like Nascar as it is, but it would be nice if they promoted more classes with actual cars. The two biggest Nextel and Busch use the names, and that's it.

Hey at least Force's FC has a body based on a currently produced, rear drive car. The Toyota-bodied FC that Jerry Toliver's driving is an abomination. Too bad the NHRA doesn't have rules where the car's body has to be based on a currently produced rear drive street car - there would be no more Firebird-bodied FC's or Cavalier/GrandAm Pro-Stocks....sheesh

At the Nashville 40th, John Force himself said that he already had a 2005 funny car being tested.

Yeah I know the bodies on funny cars are so warped it looks nothing like the actual car. THe funny car built in my basement has a camaro body on it that was so ridiculous compared the the real thing at first when unloading the body off the delivery truck I didnt notice we took the firebird one instead of the camaro. I was also half asleep at the time too truck came at 5:30 a.m.

But the current Mustang bodies Force has on his car when they first came out with them they worked very closely with Ford to get it as close to the production body as NHRA rules would allow. SHould probably be the same way with the 2005. Even if not I think its still cool that its based off the 2005 and so soon to figured wouldnt be out until next season.
