Your rental place has GT Mustangs? Wow, they only have V6s down here for some reason, unless you get the Hurtz GT-H. Which I don't since it's like 300 a day or some crap. Anyway, back on-topic. I think of the things I did with my first car, and dang I'm lucky to be alive. From playing follow the leader at 3am in the neighborhoods, to trying to see how fast it would go on Lox road. Ugh, even now I got a speeding ticket for doing 15 over. Ah well, I'm not paying the insurance or payment, so I don't get a say, but it will be hilarious the first time mom takes the keys away.

ATM, $115/mo. We will see what The Ticket Clinic does with the speeding ticket, hopefully a full wipe but I may have to hit the driving school to keep the points off. Being over 30 with a mortgage really helps your insurance, I tell you, lol.

Wow! When I was 18, my insurance was $250/mo on a Hyundai Sonata. But that's because I drove like a jack@ss.

Sorry, but I have a hard time believing this number. Mine is right at that and I'm 32 with a clean driving record. You mean to tell me a 16 year old is only paying $1,200 per year on full coverage insurance on a BRAND NEW Mustang GT? I'm not buying it.

sure if one of his parents is listed as the primary driver of the vehicle. Then they'll get really owned if he gets in an accident with it.

my insurance is in the 230 a month range for two cars, in JERSEY. UH

Thats just it though. IF he is on the policy with the Mustang it would more than likely be MUCH higher. If he isn't and he wrecks it... well, you can imagine the outcome.

As for 230 a month... OUCH!

He might have a good student discount? When i started driving at 16 i was sopposed to pay $150/month. I sent them my transcript and they lowered it to $75. And i dont think he meant $100/month for the mustang. He probably meant the truck hes driving since he doesnt have the mustang yet.

230 for two cars, i am 24, and a not spotless however not horrible driving record. To put it in perspectuve, when i had a jetta on there as my only car i was paying 768 a year.

for jersey those numbers are extremely reasonable judging by the two cars i have.

There is no way he is paying $100 a month for the car to be insured and registered in his name. Remember it is a lease. So that means it is being leased in his moms name and insured. I just went through getting my 16 yr old son insurance on a 99 Taurus and it was crazy and that isnt a Mustang. So as was said IF he gets in an accident the insurance company is going to have some real fun with this case.

When I was in school, I qualified for the good student discount. It sure didn't make buying ANY new car affordable for me. Plus, keep in mind the vehicle in question here.

Well dang i was hoping to see a pic of your mom and the mustang.
I am 44 and got my new mustang on June 16th.
Love it and wish i could have one of each color.
I wanted a S197 since they came out. Had to wait for my
kid to graduate college and get married and now I have it.
Tell my wife I'm going cruising for chicks.
She laughs and says just dont bring it home.

OK, my 2 cents.
First of all good for you. Most here are jealous and they have a right to be. They got mom's subaru for there first ride.
When I was 17 I bought my first new car. My mom didnt kick in but my dad co-signed for it and it took all of the money I had saved up. Insurance was more than the car payment but that goes without question when your young.
It was a Dodge Challenger that said 340X6 on the hood. Even I was jealous of myself.
I took better care of that car than any other in town. I loved the power but never challanged it. Guess I was smart enough to realize that it could disappear with one stupid move. Dont get me wrong I did spin the sneakers more than once but somehow kept it well below 100.
So anyway good luck with the new ride and enjoy it but remember to keep your head or you might loose it.
Good for you.

Insurance can also greatly fluctuate based on where you live. When I moved from Tampa to Gainesville my insurance dropped about $600-700 a year. Granted when I switched from my first car, a 94 Camry, to an 05 Mustang it went up much more than that. Right now, with a good student discount, I believe it's at about $2k through State Farm and I'm 20 (not 100% sure how much it is though). That's with 1 accident over 3 years ago and a ticket from last year (no points).

Congrats on the car...and take care of it! Don't drive like a complete fool like I did for about 2 years.
