Yeah, some manufacturers put a piece of plastic that covers the wire and keeps it pressed up against the windshield (it's like a channel for the wire). However, I know of cars that don't have this.
BTW, it's not $170 for the garage door opener. For me, the main purpose for buying the mirror was for the dimmer. With the convertible, the lights shine right in your face when the top is down (I know, violins are playing). It was only a few bucks more to upgrade to the homelink.
Personally, I don't like leaving anything clipped to my visor, as it has a tendency to permanently leave marks in the foam and cover if removed.

The wiring cover is what I was asking about. I didn't realize the factory did that. I thought it was some type of wiring harness adhered to the glass.
$170 for a garage door opener is kind of expensive. That's why I just stuck to using the clip on door opener. Had it been a factory option, I would have elected to buy it.
