Just ordered an 05 from the UK

Hi everyone,
This top site has given me a wealth of info regarding the '05, I have now taken the plunge and ordered a Black GT Premium which will end up in the UK.
I hope to have the car in March 05 & intend to take it to Le Mans in June for the 24hr race. The Mustang has never been officially sold in England & they are rarer than Ferraris here. I have had a 69 Mach 1, an 82 GT, a 1990 GT vert & have had my current GT since '97, I have fallen for the 05 big time & just had to get one! Can't wait......

I will have to pay 27.5% on top to the UK customs people when it lands here, that is between $8-9000 on top of the US price
Thats just the way it is, a basic PT Cruiser costs $23400 over here!
And I wont even go into the cost of gas...........

Jeff-
Thanks for joining and Congratulations on the new purchase. Have any pictures of your 5.0?
I'm trying to convince the Fiancee that a trip next year to Le Mans would be a great honeymoon. She's almost ready to go.

Hey, that baby is wrinklin up the tires real nice. This is the second one I've heard being exported to the UK. Supposedly, my local dealer took a wire transfer of complete funding for a redfire GT before it ever hit the ground and was personally flying over to drive it to the dock and put it on the boat for exportation.
Cool to see the spirit lives overseas as well.

ukfive0, how did you decide on what dealership to choose? Did you just grab one, or is there some more "official" channel to take? What about warranties and service? (and *shudder* finance?)
As I've said in other threads, there are a few premium sports cars dealerships here that will import Mustangs on request, but that means shelling out quite a few extra $$ to keep them happy.

ukfiveo,
My 05 Mustang gt should get here in th UK and through customs in late November. where are the tracks close to cambridge where i can test it out?
fortunately i get get inexpensive gas over here i cant see how the english pay 7$ per gallon even with the small cars you have.
you are very right about the attention american sports cars get here. I had a 92 firebird when i first got here and i had people in 100k sports cars staring at it and drooling. the firebird was not even in very good condition and i just sold it for twice what it was worth in the states.

I e-mailed plenty of dealers in the NY & NJ area, I found the through the Ford.com car builder via this site. Got very few replies but one dealer took the trouble to call me up, he got the deal, I am paying cash to the dealer so that side is simple.
Service is no problem as there is a US base near me that has a US car specialist with all the latest OBD equipment. Warranty is however a problem I am still considering, officially once exported the warranty ceases, however I am told that Ford are very good with claims outside of the normal parameters.

For me, the $7/gallon gas price (we got the same here...pretty much even all over western Europe) is a lesser problem compared to insurance premiums...
Thank god annual tax is based on weight only and not some other characteristic (like power).
ukfiveo: ahsee, thanks for the info. Regular dealers will sell them overseas if they feel like it, that's good to know. On the flop side, the closest US base I got from here must be, like Ramstein or something. But local owners probably know how to get parts shipped cross the Atlantic at decent prices.
