I'm just wondering...when you close the hood (if you have pins)...Do you drop the hood like you normally would (about 12 -20 inches) above...or Do you first put the hood down and then press on the center of the hood to make latch properly? It just seems that you really have to believe that the holes are perfectly lined up before "dropping" the hood into place.
Yao: see where the outer rubber hood stops are? you maybe able to bolt the pins there without any need for drilling..
once done you could try to slide the rubber stops down around the pins again

i've never slammed my hood or let it drop from 10-12"
i just lower it slowly till the first latch clicks, then holding the edge, right in the middle, i push it down firmly.
well..here goes nuttin'....i used factory MOPAR hood pins that i got off of ebay..(dodge challanger i think)..what i like about them ( i have a '70 340 dart ) is that the hood plate is about 1/8 thick due to a forming process..then kit was fairly inexpensive, comes with ss plates,ss screws, rubber pre-cut gasket,ss lanyards, chrome pins and chrome bolts..took about 1 hr. to install,as i painted all the screw and drill holes also..adds to the "look at me " factor..Robert
i have the sparco pins and i need to install it very wide to avoid the KR style ram air hood.
Where is best place to put the pins? Anyone have pics?
thanks!
Right outside the hood bumpers are 2 holes pre drilled. The stock hood is alot thicker there, so it works out well. I angled them to 45 degrees. They look hot. I'll post some pics when I get around to it.
By the way its a take off hood, i didnt cut the factory hood and they are frpp pins.

My holes are lined up perfectly, the grommets are slightly larger than the pins, to allow a little give in all directions. don't forget the hood comes from a 45 degree to about a 180 degree in the movement from open to shut.
So i bought a cheap set of hood pins from the local O'riley and they seem to work pretty good. Theyre about 8 inches long. 9 would have been optimum for where i put mine but it still works nonetheless. I mounted them in the radiator mount by redrilling the holes that were already there.

After you finalize where the pins are and get the holes drilled properly, you shouldnt have a problem just dropping the hood like normal.
