Whoa, that's a great idea "mr. altoid"! Did you design that yourself or is there actually a place that others can go to in order to get something like that?
Thanks,
bucko

Has anyone thought about magnets? I looked on the web and there is a company that sells the magnetic strip that attaches to the plate, then you'd just need somewhere around the bumper area that's metal to attach it to. I'm not looking for anything permanent, just something I can slap on in the morning before I drive on base, then take it off once I get there.

Here is a petition site to eliminate the need for a front license plate in OHIO, so all you ohioans, please sign up.

Here in IL, we have both front and rear license plates, however when you put the sticker on they only give you one for the rear. Since I'm not originally from IL, my excuse is "Oh I didn't realize we needed the front plate because they didn't give me a sticker for it."
Thanks to this thread, I've just added a few more to use. My license plate will be under the passenger seat also.

Well, I'm all over the magnet idea and have 4 small magnets out of a hard drive. They are super strong and tonight I'll see if they attract through the bumper. If so I'll probably glue two on the back side of the bumper where the drill holes are and then get one of the dealer magnet brackets (rubber coated) for when I need the front plate.
I'll let ya know how it comes out.

Ok, magnet idea, while it was good, won't work unless you take off the front fascia? bumper? whatever it's called. Not enough room to get behind it to place the magnets. It would work as the magnets are more than strong enough, just can't get back there.
Looks like I'll be going by the dealership for them to drill them holes out and put on the front plate

TampaBear67 , Yup posted the original idea - I can verify that. Have you made your brackets yet? If so can you post a pattern with dimensions and hole spacing etc?
I want to follow your idea, but I'm still waiting for my GT! Not to be foiled I went to the local dealership to check out the available 'solid surfaces' on a GT. The salesperson thought I was trying to open the hood from the outside and came out quickly. I had to reassure them I wasn’t tampering, just looking… No one seems to have a solution at the moment. Hey aftermarket folks, opportunity is knocking!

Im not putting mine on the front...even though I believe its law in washington state... I will courteously point out to the officer that there was nowhere to put the front license plate
Seems kind of a weak argument .. but what the heck... I see other cars without the front plate....

OK. Just for your Info out there, for those that just run without the plate. I'm sure most dual plate states are the same but here is the Missouri deal.
In Missouri both plates must be securely MOUNTED to the vehicle, front and back. Most PO's in the larger cities such as K.C. will pull you over for no front plate. They use this as a reason to stop you with the hopes that you have drugs, guns, etc in the car. If you havn't been stopped, odds are you will.
Here is the part I don't want to say, but will. I am a cop. Sorry. I don't ticket peeps for this often. Only when it leads to something else. Generally, if you admit that you were wrong I give you a warning. If you try to give me a BS line you usually talk yourself into a ticket. Though, each cop is different, and each city is different. Generally, the no front plate deal in KC is probably one of the most stopped offenses. Why? Because it is so incredibly easy to see. If you have no front plate and a Missouri on the rear, the only excuse is that it's a Dealer tag. Or motorcycle which doesn't apply to Mustangs.....
At any rate, it just leads to making your life more miserable when you do get stopped. I'll tell you, I'm more relaxed than most and rarely give out the ticket unless the party ends up with multiple warrants, crack, meth, guns, etc. But if you are running with no plates you probably will get stopped eventually.
KC Ordinance is a Mail In Fine with no points. $38.50 each time.
Having the plate in the car, on the dash, etc will not get you out of the fine if you go to court.
If you go to court and show a picture of the plate mounted to the car, the judge will usually ask the officer if it was on the car at that date and time. The officer will rerspond with a "no", and the judge will then fine you the $38.50 PLUS court costs for wasting his/her time.
If you work during the day, chances are you had to take off work to go to court as well.
I'm just getting the word out so you think a little. If you are required to have a front plate it will probably save you a lot in the long run to get the front plate put on one way or another. Less heart ache, less time and money lost to just spend a few bucks for a bracket.
Just one Pigs Opinion.....

Ford should make a special bracket that requires no drilling, since they are the ones that didn't design a place on the GT for the license plate.
I'm hoping they get enough complaints (customer survey form???!!!) that they'll come out with one pronto!
Okay, so I'm naive...

If every Police Officer was like you then there would be no need to use the term "pig"!!
Very good insight thank you for sharing!!

I'm in TX as well. It is required here by law, but I didn't bother installing it on my last 2 cars. I must pass DPS cars at least 3 times a week running speed traps on the highway I take on the way home. I haven't been stopped for it (I certainly don't speed there either!) The only time I've ever heard of anyone getting grief for no front plate was when I was in college (over 20 years ago), my roommate and I went to some impromptu drag racing one night. We were just watching, but the cops roadblocked both ends of the road we were on and checked license/ insurance on EVERY SINGLE CAR. They wrote tickets for any stupid little thing they could find, cracked taillight lens, etc. My roomie got one for no front license.

California requires you to have both plates, but the law doesn't seem to be enforced very much... I'd say every tenth car you pass doesn't have a front plate. I never had a front plate on my last Mustang, which I drove from 1998 until this year... I was stopped by police a total of 4 times; 3 were Highway Patrol who had stopped me for other reasons and never even mentioned the plate, but one was a Sheriff's deputy and he ticketed me for the missing plate. I paid the fine, and bought a new car that doesn't have a front plate either.
I figure a $100~ or so fine every 6 years is quite acceptable for not having to mess up the front end of my car. There are no points for this infraction.

What Gives!
Just noticed that every V6 I've seen so far has a different front bumper with an indent for the plate. That's the only difference I can see up front other than the fog lights. So why did the GT not get the plate indent?

They have completely different bumpers. That's why the GT grill won't fit in a V6.

because it looks like crap.... they should come up with something and do away with the indent.............

Does anyone have the link for the plate holder that acutally retracts into the hole in the lower bumper? bascially like altoid's idea, but power and retractable??
i saw a video of it on an 03 (IIRC) black cobra.
really hard to find...anyone? i don't think it'll work on an 05 because of the slits that run vertically (the "teeth") in the lower bumper.
here in ontario, front plates are mandatory and carry a $110 fine - cops here are pretty strict.
