I'm 45...in 1984, I traded in a 1977 LTD II-S (18 mpg hiway) and drove 2 K-cars and a Ford Escort 400K+ miles for 13 years until they raised the speed limit here to 65 from 55, where the poor little Escort couldn't keep up with traffic anymore (everyone driving at 70 to 80). Bought a new Cougar V8 with the sport package in 1997 and vowed never to go back to an econobox ever again.

Keeping my fingers crossed to get a '07 GT Vert.

I get the 'mid life crisis' thing all the time when I tell people about my new baby (a '06 V6 premium vert) which is everyone I see because I'm so excited about it!

interesting topic. im 19 and recently bought my first stang (been saving for it ever since i started working all year long when i was 15) and a lot of people just assume "oh you must be one of those kids whose parents buys him whatever he wants." far from the truth...im making all the payments for my car as well as gas and half the insurance...no small feat for a 19 yr old in a 99 mustang gt .

anyway i would have to wonder what age IS it okay with other people to own a mustang? most people would say "oh a v8 muscle car is too much for a younger guy like that" yet we have people on here who are accused of having a mid life crisis car at age 29? does that mean its only ok to own a mustang between the age of maybe 23-27?

anyway, point is it doesnt matter what other people think. anyone who really knows cars will respect you for driving a mustang as long as you dont rice it out.

...now maybe if you bought a CORVETTE it would be a mid life crisis car

I had my first mustang at 16, it was a decent 1967 coupe V8. I put a lot of time and money to bring that car to life and she was gorgeous. I loved that car. Everyone should own a mustang, old and new.

I'm 31 now and have a new 2006 GT 5spd on order. When I saw the 05's come out with the 1960 stylings I had to have one but it's been impossible to get. Now it's finally on order and I'm driving myself crazy waiting for it. I think the waiting is causing me a midlife crisis!

I'm turning 40 and when teased about the midlife crisis thing I agree and tell them that I informed the wife that Either its a Mustang or a girlfriend and the wife picked the mustang.... To be honest my wife is the Best because she new I wanted on for a while and thought my 40th was a great time to get one for me.

[SIZE=7] :nono: Hey wait just a minute here :scratch: I am 68 and have owned many cars. Liked the 1970 Mark Donahue Javelin with 360 go pak and the 74 TransAm with the shaker hood. Love this sonic blue GT five speed. I tell people I found the Fountain of Youth-only it is this 2005 Mustang GT. Do I line up at the stop lites? Why not? Drive what you want when ya want and the heck with all the people that drive cars that do not excite.............

Oh Yea, I still snowmobile on the trails with my Arctic Cat F7 and ice drag with my ZRT 800 cat set up for 660 feet. And if the ice is good I take my DN ice boat out.

34 is midlife? I am 32, and I don't feel "midlife".
Anyhow, seeing as how my previous car was a sportscar as well, which I owned for 8 years, no one has even questioned my decision to buy a Stang. What did you drive b4 the Stang? I guess also what helps me is the fact that I don't look my age. I look more like mid-late 20s. Just blessed with good genes!

Anyhow, don't sweat the whole midlife deal. Sound to me like most of those comments are based on jealousy cause you have such a nice ride!

Yeah, my wife and I call it a mid life crisis thing, too. But, in truth, I don't think of it is as one.
It's just a conversation thing. My wife got a bmw around the same time,,,, but we don't say mid life crisis for that. It is post mini van for her. We are both 47. (and i kept my suv).

The mustang is too affordable. I think of mid life crisis, as something alot more overboard than a car under 30k. Plus, when you've taken care of all your business; kids, family, etc - - it is pretty practical, and real fun.

We all like to label something, so what the heck.

But, at 34. Gimme a break.

A midlife crisis is some guy that gets hair plugs, takes Viagra and buys a Corvette. Getting a Mustang GT just means that you are still cool.
