Probably depends on how much you expect your insurance company to replace if it were stolen, had a boulder fall on it, etc.

Obviously for insurance reasons you would want to keep the numbers down.

I am surprised insurance companies don't dyno sportscars to get the true rating... better they don't, they charge enough as it is.

its about whether the car was made on monday, wensday,or friday
i dont want a car built by some one whose tired and has a hangover from a sunday barbaque or some one who is rushing trying to get home as soon as he/she can on a friday
It takes more than one day from start to finish for a car to run down the line. Add to it that the engine, transmission, dash assembly, suspension parts, seats, exhuast and a whole host of parts and sub assemblies come from other plants and outside vendors and most likely were built on different days of the week. Factor in that any of the assembly line workers could go out on a bender on a Tuesday night as well has having one to many on Sunday afternoon, and the Monday - Friday myth gets debunked.

The biggest problem the manufacturers have are workers who do not show up. Go read wll the whining on BON now that the UAW contract says they can be fired (no recourse) after a certain # of AWOLs.

yeah if your car is stolen or wrecked they will only pay for stock replacement unless you inform them ahead of time of changes and pay the extra charges

Ever hear of manufacturing tolerances? Although parts are interchangable, no 2 parts are truely identical. Everything has to be manufactured within a specified tolerance, but there always is variation.
Yup, tolerence stack up. There are about a cajillion things that can affect the output of an engine.

As an example the original 302 in my 91 had the deck milled at 2 different angles for each bank (used to cause the intake manifold bolts to lossen up )

Supposeedly with the new generation engines they are machined on new equipment to much closer tolerences. Where as in the halcyon days of yesteryear a trip down to the machine shop for some blueprinting could yield substantial results just by making sure everything was square (and by that I mean, not just square to the crank, but comps were the same, valvetrain geometery correct, ect.)

Hence the almost baloney claims by rocker arm manufactures that by adding a set of roller rockers could add up to 30 hp.
