2011 Dodge Challenger 392...way underrated

452 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque to the wheels. Not too shabby!

While those are good numbers, I think Dodge could have done better.

You must drive a nascar to work.
450+ to the ground is plenty good.

thats about 500+ at the flywheel right? i remember the 07-09 GT500's making about 445hp to the rear wheels and those had 500hp IIRC.

Yeah, that's probably right at about 515hp or so at the flywheel and that is assuming a conservative 12% driveline loss. Dodge very likely just trumped the actual hp output of GM's 7.0L Z06 with noticeably fewer cubic inches, and there is absolutely no question the Hemi drills the LS7 on torque production. This is the Challenger the world has been waiting for. One of these swapped into a Chrysler Crossfire would be brutal.

Very good numbers! The only thing I would mention is the Edmunds dyno is usually on the high side. They had the 5.0 at 395 HP and Motor Trend had 375 HP. I think we'll see 430 HP on other dynos. That matches the trap speed better and is still very good for an automatic making 470 flywheel HP.

That's a very good point, IMO. I, too, remember the 395-horse dyno pull Edmunds made in a 2011 Mustang GT. The output of the new 6.4L Hemi is still impressive nonetheless, even if it's really only putting down 420-430 rwhp.

Nope I drive my other SVT to work

450 to the wheels is a great number. This SRT8 is rated at 475HP at the flywheel. What I meant by Dodge coud have done better is based on their competition like the Shelby and the upcoming Z28. It is a race you know

I hope the manufacturers keep underrating their engines, makes it cheaper for us to insure.

If the 392 was available in the $30k-$35k range, I'd be interested.

Yeah, me too. Instead, the Dodge Challenger 392 is a mid- to high-$40,000 car; the fact that only 1,492 are being made pretty much ensures dealership markups, too.

I don't think its possible to get a 475 hp car for that price.

The limited edition has to do with the stripe package, etc...not the engine. The 6.4L will be included in every SRT8 model, so there should be more than 1500 of them.

Very good numbers, and a very nice, broad power band too, a lot of area under that curve.

The Challengers are a bit overpriced, IMHO. At the top of the line they should have an SRT-10 with guess what motor. The SRT-8 should come standard with the 392 starting between $35K, the current SRT-8 should be the new R/T starting around $32K with the current R/T being, oh, I don't know, perhaps some stripper V8 model at under $30K or just do away with it.

My thoughts exactly. An SRT-10 Chally to compete at the GT500 level. Not that it's a bad feat to use a N/A V8 with those numbers, it's just not enough. The 392 should be going against the SS and GT not GT500 level. They need boosted hemi's or the V-10's. Wile I love the looks of them it's still the bottom rung on which of the 3, I would buy. The bang for your buck is just not there.
