another clunk related question. I'm plannign on takign my car upstate NY from Long Island at the end of July. Is there any danger in going on the trip with a little added weight in the car without gettign the fix?
Dave,
Don't know if this will help but with my car, the clunk is sometimes associated with popping noises when I turn the wheel left or right at parking speeds and indeed it has worsened and occurs with greater frequency. I'd get a "clunk" followed by what sounds like popcorn popping when turning the wheel. My car is scheduled to go in Monday 12/5 to the dealer for TSB 05-09-11 which is to install a revised upper strut bearing assembly and a lower spring seat isolator on both front struts. I'll report back after they fix it to give an update of their findings.
I asked to have the parts for the TSB ordered in advance for Monday and at first they wouldn't, citing Ford won't allow them without first verifying the problem. After some discussion blah blah blah.. they did.

I will be taking mine in for the service in the spring when the weather clears up.
At the same time they are going to install lowering springs in the front at no extra charge. The alignment and rear springs will cost a bit, but no worries.

Just to update on the TSB. It's fixed.
They did the TSB on the front strut and the car is quiet upfront when turning the wheel. In fact, I've become so accustomed to the noise that without it, it is almost eery
Well, I ALMOST made it. Missed it by 24 hours. It snowed the night before I brought the car in, first snow of the season so I did drive it through all the muck. It warmed up to a balmy 38 degrees that day so when I got home I washed her, waxed her and threw the cover on her for the winter. But not before taking some final parting pics to last me until spring
