I don't think it's a old person thing. I think it's more of a liberal, anti-big engine thing. Liberals can't stand seeing a 8 cylinder muscle driving down the street. According to them, the car is not only spewing out horrible gases, but causing obnoxious noise pollution as well. Tell them to go hug a tree.

Although you refer to this as a 'liberal' thing, not all liberals are the tree-hugging, prius-driving, muscle car-hating losers you think they are. some are, but most, like myself, aren't.

Dustin said,

"It bascially boils down to old people love to complain."

I say, old is a state of mind. I'm 59 and the proud owner of an 05 Mustang GT.

I wish there were an answer to this problem, but there just isn't. Here's a story for you to illustrate.
Before we bought our house we lived in a condo. I'm a nice person. Really. My whole family is - wife and 5 kids. I have people tell me ALL THE TIME that I have the best behaved children they've ever seen (and my oldest is 18, my youngest 1, so it's been through a lot of years).
My next door neighbor didn't agree, he thought we were the loudest, careless, inconsiderate, obnoxious group of individuals he'd ever seen.
He expected complete quiet at all times. He wanted a retirement home atmosphere (even though our condo was locacted right next to the pool and LARGE common play area).
My stereo was too loud - I removed my speakers from the wall and bought wireless headphones for everyone.
My TV was too loud - we used the above headphones.
We stayed up too late, he liked to NOT use his air conditioning and kept his window open at night - we trained our kids to be SUPER quiet at night. We went to bed early whenever possible.
Our babies cried at night - we moved their rooms to the farthest part of the house.
I was too loud coming home from work in the a.m. (12-3 am) - I would tip toe/sneak through the gate after parking my *SATURN*!
The kids were too loud playing in the DAYTIME in the back yard (our little patio outside the back door)- we didn't let the kids play there anymore.
Our TV/Computers runied his TV reception (he wouldn't buy cable and insisted on using an antenna) - we moved our computer room to another place in the house - didn't help (obviously) - he was SURE all my electronics were ruining his views... Even when we were GONE for two weeks on VACATION he STILL insisted that *somehow* we had "something on" that was continuing to cause problems...
It was like living in a submarine in "silent running mode" for THREE LONG YEARS, waiting to be depth charged!
Here's the kicker - all throught the years, he would constantly yell at my wife, me, and my kids and complain bitterly to the homeowner's association, stare at us through our open front window... They never fined us - they knew he was a problem. He was retired and even his wife didn't like to spend time with him (she told us this.)
Nothing I ever did - no apologies, none of the changes we did (I could fill this page with examples) ever made a difference.
He made NO concessions (other than putting up with us).
My family was a complete waste as far as he was concerned, no matter what. NOTHING would change that.
If I had my Mustang he'd have gone CRAZY. I was close to the breaking point already, I held my temper for years - I don't think I'd have been able to stand one thing more.

Sometimes there's nothing you can do!!!!

You "don't think"???? Really surprised me.

"Liberals can't stand" "According to them" Blah blah blah. The Guy Down the Street isn't a topic exclusive to Liberals or Conservatives. But somehow in your infinite wisdom you managed to turn it into that. Reality check time: just because you disagree with someone doesn't make them wrong.

BTW the new Mustang is 50% cleaner than an 04. So you can hug a tree and drive a "8 cylinder muscle" (LOL Fruedian omission???) in good conscience. Maybe in the not too distant future we can drive ultra low emission (electric/hydrogen/gas?) hybids that get 60 MPG and do 13 second quarter miles.

Holy crap! There is no way I would ever alter my lifestyle to such a degree to appease some a-hole who loves to complain. He would be put in his place.

I've ordered my new Mustang knowing that I will get much better gas mileage and fewer emissions than my current car. Check out the market place to see my 455 cu.in. "18 mpg EPA rated " Oldsmobile. I also only drive about 6,000 mi a year on my daily driver. Almost everyone pollutes more than I do. I have had these crazy guys yell at me on the block for driving my big block in first gear at 20 mph!!! They've never heard it floored and the auto shift into second at 55. POINT OF VIEW IS WHAT LIFE IS ALL ABOUT.

LMAO man that's hilarious!!! We have a few busy bodies in our neighborhood as well. They obviously have perfect lives since they complain when people don't edge the driveway One couple in particular is really bad. My front yard is a complete wreck right now (weeds) but we're working with a company to get it straightened out. If just one of those busy body morons says anything - I'll use weed killer and put a not-so-nice symbol (think "upper case L's kind of linked together in 90 degree turns ) in their yard

What the bleep are liberals and conservatives?

...
The problem with doing a burnout or brakestand for these people is that they CAN call the cops and report reckless behavior.

there was actually a study done wish i could find it but the louder your car is the faster others think you are going.

This use to happen to me all the time too when I had my 89 with mac equal lenght headers and flowmasters i would be driving 20 mph and I would have neighbors yelling at me to slow down

I always thought that was kinda funny
