I really thought this only happened to other people.
I'm out in my driveway wiping down my car, minding my own business and the guy from down the street drives by very slowly and pulls up and says "you really should slow down in that thing." At first I though he was kidding but after an uncomfortable moment he continued "some of the neighbors are complaining." To me, that's code for I don't have the ***** to confront you as my own opinion so I'll use the neighbors. I remained calm and explained that he was mistaken and that I was busy at the moment; he could come down and discuss with me later. He continued at which point I told him I think we are done discussing the topic and to call the police if he is so inclined.

I NEVER go over 20 miles and hour through this neighborhood. I make a point of stopping people that DO fly down the streets. I'm in the Air Force and believe me I am even more obligated to obey the law and act in a safe manner as it's not hard to tell who I work for. More importantly I do worry about the kids that ignorant parents such as him let run out into the street.

I suppose that having a fast car that growls as it goes by at 20 miles an hour looks like 60 and I'm aiming for the kids on the street. I believe I have experianced stereotyping at it's best tonight. Hopefully this will not turn into a soap opera on my street.

Good luck with the neighbors, some can be a pain no matter what. These cars look fast sitting still, so maybe 20 MPH looks like flying!

Neighbors can be a PITA. I was washing my car and the lady who lives around the corner came walking by and said, "what do you get in that thing about 10 miles to the gallon"? I said nope 19!

Dude this happens to me every day. What you are saying is Deja Vu to me.

The lady at the condo association harasses me in the same exact fashion. Things like "a lot of people have been complaining" and "you're driving like a race car up and down the street" etc etc etc. It's a nightmare. The posted limit is 15 and I don't go a lick over 14 since I'm so paranoid about it.

The last time it happened I told the lady where to go. I said next time I want specific dates and times along with the people's names and phone numbers or don't even talk to me. I know for a fact I didn't do anything because I'm so conscious about it now. She is just making stuff up.

It bascially boils down to old people love to complain. It looks fast standing still. When it's moving at 10 it looks like it's moving at 30. It's not your fault, fire back at them. Ask them what their police credentials are that they're been trained to visually estimate vehicle speed. Tell them to buy a radar gun. Tell them to take said radar gun and shove it up their !@#$. If you let them continue it will get worse unless you put a stop to it now.

Thanks a lot for posting this. I'm trying to get some homework done and you've got me all enraged again. I'm too angry to do any work now.

Just be careful guys, especially when it comes to neighbors. They can be some real haters and can start alot of drama.

I would tell the neighbors to go ahead and call the police. Invite them to use your phone. That would show that you have nothing to hide and it would shut them up. If they do and keep calling the police, that will get old with the cops pretty quick. The police will have a talk with the PIA neighbors.

Im guessing you have a stickshift, and tend to not 'short shift' on sidestreets...I do the same thing, and at even 15 mph it can 'sound' like youre really moving. like the folks that flash lights because they see 4 headlights...its not that fast, low beams/fogs not that bright, yet the perception is still there for those unhappy souls looking to beech about someone else's 'wrongdoings'. There is a lot of folks out there that just love to be putting down anyone they can to make themselves feel better...I know at my parents house we had a real a** for a neighbor...one is all it takes to really ruin a neighborhood, and most have one. I'm lucky, as I moved in between two of the coolest older couples around, and 2 doors up another...all good friends, couldnt have been luckier or moved into a better place...sadly all 3 of the old guys are gone now, 2 houses going up for sale soon, 3rd likely not far behind...good neighbors are a blessing and a half, felt like I lost a parent when any one of them died...heck living next door for 23 years they get like family. Had there been a 'neighborhood *****' I woulda been outta here long long ago. I sure am thankful for all these years though- most folks will never be so lucky to have had such cool neighbors.

Anyways, I probably wouldnt do a burnout down the street, as that could get you in trouble, but heck...in my driveway? a couple black stripes leading to a mustang would look right at home, and not a thing they could say.

I would suggest they understand your car is geared a little different and exhaust is louder than most new cars- It sounds fast even at low speeds...if they say bull****, then give them a blue cloud example of how it sounds 'fast'..."Oh, no sir I can assure you it really does sound a little fast at low speed- If I opened it up it would do this..." and let him disappear in a choking cloud of shredded pirellis...I wouldnt want to be a smart alec, but would probably still do this. Some people just deserve a little reality check 'shock' once in a while.

on second thought...nah. wouldnt want to upset the good folks in the neighborhood...just tell him like it is, and if he dont buy it, have him call the cops- I'm sure they get idiots like this all the time.

Had the opposite attention from the neighbors. This one older guy who always walks up and down the street tells me I have the best car on the block. He tells me every time I see him. I actually tell my neighbors who fly down the street in their minivans and corrollas to slow down, I don't want them to hit my car. My neighbors have more ricers with those fart cans to deal with than me and my Mustang.

That sucks man, some people can be so ignorant!

I solved this problem by living on the corner of my street.

I don't think it's a old person thing. I think it's more of a liberal, anti-big engine thing. Liberals can't stand seeing a 8 cylinder muscle driving down the street. According to them, the car is not only spewing out horrible gases, but causing obnoxious noise pollution as well. Tell them to go hug a tree.

Yah my neighbors are pretty cool...most keep to themselves. But there is this one neighbor who I wouldn't mind running over.

I was out washing my car and she comes over "ooh glad I caught ya, i'm the vice president of the counsel and I don't see a county sticker on your car..."

Yah....

"Well that's against the rules...if it's not on there in 30 days we will have to tow the car"

No problem thank you mam. (really thinking tow it and i'll blow your house up)

WOW... you guys with the hag neighbors are really in a world of hurt. That sucks. I feel for you. I used to live in a housing tract governed by a homeowners association, and the retired old useless duffers that were on the board literally had nothing other to do than harass people.

My 'Stang hasn't been bothered (no HOA here, thank GOD!) and no neighbors have said anything to me. I think they are more concerned about the kids driving on the sidewalks with those pint-sized motorbikes with their blatting fart cans than they are about my American Thunders...

I wonder what they would say if I got a set of SLP Loudmouths?

I haven't heard anyone complain about my driving yet... probably because no one on my street is very friendly. However, I think I caught the attention of the guy across the street with the 1971 big block Pontiac LeMans... I catch him doing burnouts all the time, and that didn't start until after I got this car.

I don't really think it's all of my neighbors just the one who I have never met. I have never had any problems with him in the past and I don't think I will in the future. I'm out of town a lot (spent a year overseas came back in Nov) and don't interact with any of them. Most folks are quiet and do the friendly wave. Why he felt possessed to confront me is beyond my reasoning. I have a feeling he just doesn't like muscle cars (that thing) as he called it. Bottom line is I have nothing to be concerned about as I am observing the speed limits and actually driving slower than required. If I have a similiar conversation with this "guy down the street" I don't believe I'll be so friendly about the whole situation. I will probably insist the police be called and demand some concrete proof of his claims (and the supposed other neighbors). People (including my family) have enough to worry about, why do people add more to the plate? I have seen some things in this world that require much more worry....this donkey named jack doesn't qualify.

Man, you guys have some really bad neightbors. I don't have any problems because there are people who drive worse than I do (especially guy with Fox 5.0 Mustang), so nobody reallys pays attention to Mustang V6.

Although when I was in high school (still driving same Mustang), there was a cop who didn't like me. He used to pull me over for every little thing. Not just me, every person who drove good car. You'll never see that cop pulling over minivan, just sports cars.

This happened to me at school the other day. My friend just got his 2006 GT and we took off the mufflers we drove to school to pick up a friend's ride. Mind you we get out early because we're seniors so it was around the time people are getting picked up. I go to make a right and there's a pedestrian in the cross walk, I wait for a good while and when it's clear I ease out and accelerate to around 43 in a 45 zone. I was not accelerating excessively nor was my friend who was right behind me.

A staff member reported me to the principal for peeling out and driving in excess of 60 mph and braking really hard to stop at the next light. This was complete and utter b.s. The Loudmouths didn't help. When I got called into the office I almost laughed in the principals face and explained that my car is loud as was my buddy's at the time. I also asked if they had a radar gun and that there was no possible way someone watching from a standing position not moving at all could judge my speed. Especially because both lanes were completely clear. I also explained how my parents are going to laugh this off as I did, my mom even works at the school so she gotta pretty big kick out of this. I stated how this is what comes with having a car like this and I'm prepared for inaccurate claims and people's opinions about me. I could care less. I just wish the staff member would have the stones to come talk to me in person so I can explain how wrong they were. This is probably the 3rd or 4th bs claim I've gotten from anyone.
