GT Order Canceled
I just canceled my order for a black GT.
I ordered from Smithtown Ford on Long Island on 10/7 and was given a priority of 10. The price was a fair one - $500 over invoice. I was told I was the first GT for the dealership and was assured that they had allocation available. As of yesterday the order had not yet been pulled. I've seen others on this board that ordered well after me and have had already gotten their VINs. Each week when I stopped in to check on status I was given the same response: "Let me check. No, not pulled yet. Maybe next week. We'll call you." When I asked about the DORA and status report, they made me feel like I was asking for confidential information and that they couldn't be bothered ("we get hundreds of DORAs a day, nobody has time to go through them all"). They blame the delay on Ford, that Ford just isn't allocating GTs for the region and they couldn't explain why. I'm not sure I buy this although I haven't seen any GTs on Long Island yet.
When I placed the order, I was hoping to get delivery mid to late November. At this point in time, even if the order gets pulled this week, I won't get it until the middle of December at the earliest - just in time for the snow and salt here in the Northeast. Instead I'll wait until February and order again then to get delivery in Spring. Hopefully by then Ford will have worked out the supply issues. And maybe some other friendly poster will have an X-plan PIN for me then. B)

Man that stinks, but I think you'll be happier getting it in the spring anyhow. Imagine pulling out of the dealership on a sunny 75-80 degree day! That's what I am going to do to.

When are you going to order for springtime delivery?
Well if i was a production planner and an allocation supervisor (or whatever they call them) I'd be allocating the most mustangs to the fair weather states where the sales are stronger, i.e. load up Florida/Ga, TX, CA, AZ, NM, NV etc... Demand is greater in these areas. Especially as we head into winter.
:notnice: depending on where you live.

My dealer told me end of January but he said even that may get it to me a bit early for me (around april). But that would be ok as long as it's not snowing when I get it. B)
When you order, if your dealer has available allocation, they should be able to tell you the exact week it will get pulled. If they can't tell you that, they probably don't have any available allocation. I'm sure your region isn't getting very good allocation. I'm near Rochester, it snowed this week. Ford is going to send them to the west and south this time of year.
Don't worry about getting x-plan. $500 over minus the $500 AQHA rebate works out just as well.
Why cancel the order now. Let it get built, show up, have it flat bedded to your house and you're ready for spring. What happens if you wait til feb or march, order and same thing happens? You miss the whole summer season. The flat bed caosts $100 or so, there will be at least that much of a price increase by spring.
If you're not happy with the way you're being treated, find a better dealer. Don't let early dlays and demand cause undue frustration and cause you to make a bad decision.

He originally ordered it without X-plan for 500 over invoice. Since he is not using X plan, he can use the AQHA rebate for 500, and he will end up paying invoice.

2. As soon as I got it, I know I would be driving it - the temptation would be too great. So to avoid this temptation I will find a dealer that can give me a firm week for when they have allocation and order from them and have a shiny, brandy new GT for spring. I'll order early enough so that if there is a slight delay it won't hurt me too bad. And hopefully by then Ford will have the production/allocation quirks worked out.
