Got my Brenspeed tuner but can't use it...yet

It arrived yeterday and after paying the ruthless UPS guy $91.75 for taxes and brokerage fees I opened the box and installed a tune. I can't drive the car yet because I am waiting for a modification to be done to the brake cooling kit I am making and the front brakes are all appart.

Question, how high should I set the RPM redline? What is stock?

Some tuners set it for 6800 RPM so you can get a clean 6500 RPM shift in but I wouldn't push it. Unless you are drag racing the car every weekend and trying to go all out for top times leave it at the 6500. Why grenade a block for a few hundred RPM's

It can be set by the user (me) to anything I want. There are a lot of parameters that can't be changed, for obvious reasons, and is left to Brenspeed. I do autocrossing and I can't count how many times I could have used an extra 100 or 200 rpms so that I got a little more speed or didn't have to shift.

I don't wan't to stress the internals so I want to know what a safe red line would be. I think stock is 6200, so in my mind 6500 would be as far as I would want to push it.

Most of us do know and realize adjustments can be made by the user. I was merely saying that its usually asked and set to what u want, short of u asking for too much (ie, 7k).

Don't mess w/success. A Brenspeed tune is awesome (trust me on that). Leave everything else alone unless you're really sure about what you're doing...

And certainly not unless you have a quality wideband A/F gauge and many hours in a book.

The only thing I would adjust is the redline, gear ration and the tire rotation per mile settings. Other than that, forget it!

I am interested in the data logging ability, anyone try that? What kind of information can you get? I would like to see what a day of autocrossing looks like when you play it back.

I actually changed my tire rotation when I went to 275/18; no biggie. You shouldn't need to mess your gear ratio or redline; Brent would have programmed it when he wrote the tune.

If you're in doubt, call Brenspeed. They'll keep you in the know.

So if I go from 3.55 to 3.73 gears Brenspeed should change the tune? I know they can email it to me quickly to download, but do they need to?

This is all new to me, so bear with the numerous questions.

No, you'll need to do that yourself when you install new gears; and it's not that hard. But if you change stuff like a cam or an intake, you'll need to get a new tune from Brenspeed.

I wouldn't be afraid of going 6,700 RPMs with a mild bolt on car. Just try to shift at 6,500 RPMs.

Your redline is set to 6800 rpm. Have fun with the tune.

Just took it out with the 87 octane tune. I like the throttle response, but to be honest, I didn't really feel much difference. Keep in mind, I have been driving my 93 Mazda 626 for the last few weeks, so even if the Mustang was stock it seems way faster than the Mazda.

I am just about out of fuel so I will try filling up with 93 octane and try that tune next.

One thing I can't seem to do is change the revs/mile successfully. I have tried twice and both times for some reason the redline gets set to 2500 rpm. Both times I went back to the 87tune so that I can drive it.

Oh well, at least I have something to play with for a while!
