BTW, thanks for reminding me why I don't visit TMS much anymore.

Again showing your inattention, my car does not have a Glassback, it has a Scenic Roof, and there is a difference. If you don't like it say so without demeaning others. Opinions are meant to be shared in a constructive way, IMHO.

And if this is the best you have to offer, I can't see how you'd be missed...

I was thinking maybe a retractable hardtop might be a Cool option sometime in the future. Not much room for that though considering the trunk and rear window area of the current Stang.

What is the difference between a scenic roof and a glassback?

Thanks.

CDC makes the Glassback, Saleen the Scenic Roof. See the previous page for pics.

CDC usually around $2500-$3000 retail and the Saleen is $3999.

So, in the pics of the "bad" glassback that kevinb posted, that is in reference to the "CDC Glassback"? And the "good" glassback on the Saleen is the "Saleen Senic Roof"?

Thanks.

That would be correct, although we have had several Glassbacks and I have only seen one start to pull up at the corners like the ones Kev has. Still not as aesthetically pleasing, IMO, as the Saleen.

I don't know how hard you are pushing it on that course, but I'd be concerned w/ cracking or delamination of the adhesive under hard cornering.

No need for concerns at all. It is stronger than the metal roof...

I thnk it would be a cool option but in response to the question in the original post, I probably wouldn't select it on my order form. I like the open air feel it gives but I would want to be able to block it out when I wanted. I would also be concerned with the additional weight of the glass roof. Does anybody know what these add to the weight of the car versus the standard metal roof? It may be less than I think but...

I would go for it if I wanted a coupe. It would certainly be lighter than a convertible.

Cheers

Supporting data?

Even if the glass itself has more robust material properties than the metal, the weak point would be how it is attached to the vehicle. Not to mention glass is brittle while metal is ductile. I dunno, just doesn't seem like a good idea to me, not for a car I track 4-6x a year.

I'm sure it's more than sufficient for street cruising & normal driving.

They look great but I dont think I would order one with it. Seems to be more hassle IMO. For the $$ it would add Id rather see a 5.4 L. engine it it or an S/C. Now that would definitely sell. I dont know what it would do to the CAFE thing but if they want something that will pick up sales drop in the 5.4

One day, when I go massively F.I. (years from now), I'm definately going to go with a glassback (whichever brand is the best at the time)... weight? Who cares about 20-50lbs when you have 600hp.

And yes there is extensive testing showing that the torsional rigidity increases with the glass roof.
