Is it me or does the intake look like it's at a different angle? look at pic 1 vs pic 2. The intake is at a different angle to the thottle body. Also look at the intake tubes on pic 2 , larger than pic 1 or am I just seeing things????

maybe it's just me also, but yeah that intake tube looks bigger... I was trying to figure out if maybe the one with the cover on it was the GT engine and the other was a V6, can't tell by the placement of the internals... usually that's a dead giveaway.

Both pics are v8's . Maybe a test mule for the cobra??????? cause that intake is bigger and at a straighter angle. The throttle body even looks different if you look close. I THINK!!!

Sorry gents, but they look identical to me. Lighting and picture angle are the only differences. Both are GT's.

The reason it looks angled is simple. Runners from both banks have to cross over each other. So the runners are angled, in this case from the close side of the car (right) they angle back towards the left and toward the firewall.

Simple, really.

All I know is my 77 had the hood blanket and I had 2 engine fires. Never did that blanket snuff out a fire. The plastic clips did melt but not enough to "drop" the blanket. I still don't believe it serves any purpose other than insulating the hood to protect the paint.

I really don't think the heat has that much affect on the paint.
I've been running a fiberglass Cobra R hood on my 94 for 6
years, there doesn't seem to be any heat related damage,
my money is on sound deading.

Also looks to me like there isn't enough room for both the
intake cover and the blanket. Maybe there was an interferance
problem.

Hey Adrenalin, Hood "Blankets" are made of a different material now, than they were made of in 77. They started making them a Fire Supression Device in the last 10 years or so.

CP94GT, As for your Fiberglass Cobra R Hood, Fiberglass doesn't transfer heat and hold heat like a steel, or in the 05's case, aluminum hood. The Insulation or "Blanket" serves multiple purposes on modern cars, but on older cars, it was basically a fiberglass insulation to save the paint on the hood.

You know, thinking of all this, I wish Ford would come up with an "engine decor group" option that would basically take some effort to clean up and enhance the engine bay which, on most newer cars, makes at best a utilitarian design statement. Maybe include some things like the manifold cover, some more interesting cam covers, some interesting wiring and hose colors/treatments, improved underhood lighting, etc. -- stuff that would make popping the hood a greater aesthetic joy.

Just think of some of the old '60's engine bays with some chrome, nice valve cover and air cleaners and the like. Or even look at the modern engine bay of, say, an Audi S4 - sharp, very sharp.
