On the way home from the dealership!!!

Its so hard to resist isn't it. It's like a beckoning, the car just says "come on open me up." I don't do it often, and when I do its late at night on a dead road.

GT is on order, but I hit triple digits regularly on the I-95 corridor in VA. heck, regular traffic moves at 85, so a quick downshift to go around someone will put me up to 100 quick, although I try to be sensible and not do that too often.

Fastest I've been where I actually looked at the speedo was 135.

Yeah I hit 142 in the stang, 123 in the Grand Am SC/T and 103 in the 4runner. Japanese came least, of course it was a truck though. By far the smoothest is the stang, in the SC?T you felt as if you we're going even fast, which was way scary and the 4runner just bogged up and down with the soft suspension.

, VA, I hate that state, so many bad experience with cops down there. Worst state yet for Police enforcement.

Oh yeah, they're real jacka**** here, that's why I rarely speed! (that plus I had a bunch of tickets in my younger years, gone 4+ years without a ticket now, trying to keep that record)

You mentioned your 4 runner, I got my 99 Taco up to 95 once, that was pretty scary, hahah. Certainly not made to go fast!

I've only been 100 a couple times in the mustang, but pretty frequently on the bike. I've been up to 147 on the bike with plenty of throttle to go.

Doesn't feel nearly as fast in the car as on the bike, and it's not as fun since the mustang is soooo much slower.

That's why they are better known as the VA State *****...they look like they are 18 and have a nasty distempermant. Doing 62 or 63 and they came up beside me and you would have sworn that I just killed somebody. Jerks :notnice:

4th gear and WOT at 100 is a total rush worth the extra gas money and the fear on an open road.

I have had the stang to about 115 on a back country road before running out of room racing a 1966 comet and around 100 twice on the freeway.
When I had my conquest tsi - I drove that thing to pullman washington and hit 145mph.. then sanity kicked in and I decided I need to back off and slow down before a farmer pulled in front of me with a tractor as he moved between the fields lining both sides of hwy 26.
I Dont plan on doing that in the stang. I know the stang can easily exceed 145 so theres no challenge in going there and too many things can go wrong at those speeds. . Im more interested in getting to the speed limit ASAP.

Just curious how often you really do crack 100mph? I havn't - yet.

In the USA, I never did it and don't plan to. In the USA it's too dangerous, I wouldn't wanna end up in jail if I tried to go to the top speed of my GT...

In Europe (I am Swiss...moved over here a couple of years ago after marrying my american fiancee...), did it a trillion times (over there doing 100 mph is common... tons of people do it all the time...unless cops are around...as besides Germany where the autobahn is mostly free of speed limits, everywhere else the max. speed limit is about 81 mph (=130 kmh) and you gotta keep your eyes open wide for coppers...).
Maximum speed ever reached (twice...), according to the speedometer was a tad over 270 kmh or rouglhy 169 mph, with a car that most likely no one here has ever heard of: a Ford Sierra Cosworth 4wd (4 door sedan, last type of the Sierra models. 2 liter engine, standard hp: 220. That car was the base for the B group rally cars of those years...after the Sierra, Ford (Europe) introduced the Ford Escort Cosworth 4wd with more or less the same powertrain...only diff. a larger turbocharger for the first 5000 models sold, so that they could fit THAT turbocharger on their race cars...after that, same exact powertrain as my Sierra Cosworth, I mean with a Garrett T25 turbocharger...) modified to 270 hp. Hit the rev limiter at 7000 rpm in fifth gear on both those runs...

so far i've only had it up to 130mph on the interstate. i let off because i thought the hood was going to come off
Heheh... noticed that myself. In general the 05 tolerates high speed well (much less whistling wind and vibration than my old 98 GT), but I did notice that the edges of the hood are trying desperately to fly.

There is absolutely no comparison between my '05 'vert and my old '97 when it comes to handling, feel, or sound at these speeds. At 100+ the new one sounds like the old one at 70.

I have gone as fast as 145 with no problems with the hood. Car really handles well at high speed and is very smooth. Still had plenty of throttle but do not know what the maximum top end is. I have also hit 130 on several occasions messing around with a new 05 GTO who seems to try to torment me but can't really drive it. All he has seen is my rear tail lights....GOT SMOKED!!!

in my opinion, no use owning a mustang if you don't crack 100 quite frequently

In my car, rarely. On my bike, every ride.
Have you written undertaker instructions and a will?

Oh, I'm not kidding. I was on a long straight bridge that is deserted past 8:00 PM. I ran through second gear and just loved the way this car pulls so much harder than my 5.0 in the upper RPMs that I wound out third. Byt the time I shifted and looked down I was at 120. I wouldn't recommend that for routine break-in, but I'm still smiling! I should have taken a picture with the Speedo at 120 and the odometer at about 15...lol

Heck, I enjoy getting up to 85-90 in 3rd. This car sounds beautiful at those upper RPMs. I might stretch her out this summer when I can make my way out to a deserted rural road.

I forgot what I voted. But I cannot sleep at night unless I hit 100 in my 05 at some point during the day.
