Cracked 100mph?
My vote was for "never," meaning that I have not hit 100 mph with my new Mustang. I used to go that fast all the time in my younger days, especially with my 1987 Mustang 5.0. In fact, one of my favorite stories from that era was when I was racing a friend and he said that with his speedo pinned at 140, I was pulling away.
Now, almost 20 years later, I can't believe that I'm still alive. At those kinds of speeds, all it takes is one minor malfunction or miscalculation - or one old man who isn't paying attention - and you're in a box. Especially the way that the population has grown in the Northeast. Today, my top morning commute speed sits around 80 or 85. On the way home, with more cars on the road, I'm lucky to hit 70 or 75.
Of course, I was an idiot for not racing on a track!
But to be certain, one of the reasons that I did not get the GT was that I didn't want the temptation. (I still remember my 15-digit NJ drivers license number, despite the fact that I didn't live there between 1994 and 2004!) Besides, the V6 gets up to 80 in a flash!

I pegged my old truck at 90 the other week, headin' into Raleigh from Wilmington, late Sunday night on I-40. It was down a hill, that's the only reason I made it. It was fun, but it didn't feel any faster than 75, really. I doubt it could've gone much higher than 95. Maybe 100 if the hill had been long enough. If I'd kept it up longer I'd still be hiking home.
I'm feeling the need for speed! I started this thread and still have not had the chance to crack 100mph. Of course, getting a WARNING from APD @ 90+ mph 41 hours after picking her up didn't help. Now I'm waiting til I'm way out of town to play

I voted never but, I'm sure it will happen sometime. I've had it about 95 before I realized I was going so fast. I had my 91 GT up to 130 before and I hit 140 in my Crown Vic at work one night which was a lot of fun since it was one of our older cars. The new Crown Vics are so slow it's not funny.
I took her up to 120 about 3 times on my test drive. I put about 35 miles on the car between my 2 20 minute test drives. I bought the car the same day. I took her to 120 again for this POS trans am that was on my hiney. I rarely take her to 100 on purpose. But I can't help punching it up the Sunol grade. You know it if your from the bay area.
Well, if the coast is clear, when getting onto my main road to work, it's a split road, so nobody can be in my lane, except in front of me. So, if no on else around, I can (and usally do) hit 100-110 easy, before the roads come together and I need to slow down. Other than that, I don't feel safe if anyone is around or could be in a lane near me. I like to speed, but if I'm going to die doing something stupid, I don't need to take anyone with me. Unless it's a real safe area, don't 'play' around please. Be safe, but by all means, HAVE SOME FUN.

Those poor test drive cars.
I used and abused 05 mustangs from here to Atlanta.
Fortunately Eleanor went from the truck to the showroom floor and never moved till she came home with me.
Course I abuse her too.
Hubby tells me I will be buying my own replacement tires cause I do too many burnouts.

Well, I'm glad your hubby is making you buy the tires!!!!!!!!!! My wife told me the same thing!!!!!!!!!!! However, I may have trouble coming my way if I just use the joint checking account
I once had my old bike (Yamaha R6) up to 156 on the digital speedometer, but honestly there is no way to know how fast I was going as most speedos aren't calibrated at speeds above 100.
My old RX-7 would bury the needle at least once a week, but the guage only went to 140, so even though I knew I was still accellerating, who knows how fast it was.
Most of my other vehicles have bounced off of their respective rev limiters at one time or another though - the only one that really amazed me was my 1.8 Turbo Jetta. That thing would hit about 125 before the governor would kick in, but as soon as it dropped 3 or 4mph it would open back up, the turbo would spool, and I would be pushed back into the seat....so I know it would have been a good time without the governor involved.
The benefit I have is I live in a rural area with miles of pristine highway with no other traffic, so I can honestly say the only life at risk would be my own. For you metro guys.....it is like playing with fire.

That's exactly why I previously said

Was side by side with an 04 vert. Both tops were down.
At 60 we both take off. Went from 5th to 3rd.
By the time i got back to 5th, the wife tells me to look at speedo.
130!!!! The sad thing is the 04 stayed nose to nose
Not even 1 min later, cop is behind me.
He pulls out to get beside me and takes off.
Thank God.
I don't know if my heart was racing because of the speed
or the cop. Needless to say, that dosent happen very often.
But when a sister stang pulls up, it is so hard to refuse.

115 once and I ran out of road, then 144 on an empty straight road with no one on it at 5:30 in the morning. I could have sworn she had much more in her, but didn't want to push it. It took me about 1.5 miles to reach top speed.
That was my test. All others will be at the track. I must say that it was a smooooth ride.
