Changer Frustration

Anyone else experiencing this?

Sometimes (not always) when I start my 'Stang up in the morning, the CD-changer resets itself. It passes through all the discs, then returns to the disc I was on, but at track 1.

Very strange.

I haven't been able to nail down what it is, or what may be causing it. At first I thought it was the weather (cold) but over time this hasn't shown to be true.

Suggestions?

Is it possible there's a loose connection somewhere?

Don't know if they ever got the shaker working properly. As far as I know everyones had problems with it spitting out cd's, refusing to read them, saying bad cd, skipping ect.

Mine works about 80% of the time, but goes crazy ever so often and starts spitting cd's skipping or just quits working all together. Been that way since I bought it. Oh it also doesn't seem to have a pattern, does the same thing to store bought cd's, burned cd's and burned mp3 cd's. Totally random.

Except for my problem above, I haven't had a single issue with my Shaker.

Actually, that's not true. Now that I think about it, if I really lay on the gas and hit the hard G's, it sometimes just stops playing. Not that I notice until later on down the road, tho...heeheehee...

It just seems to me like the changer unit is losing power or getting a surge on start-up, causing it to restart (recycle).

On the one hand, I'm worried that this could be damaging to my changer, not to mention the car's electrical.

On the other hand, it's bloody annoying.

Sounds like you are in the same boat that several people were in at one time or another. Go to the dealer and get it replaced. These units are prone to several issues. After having my 4th one replaced I installed an aftermarket head unit. It just was not worth my time to keep having to bring the car back to the dealer for the stereo.

The way I understand it, the charger unit cycles through the CD's every time it thinks "power has been re-introduced." It's possible that your battery is at a lower than normal voltage (maybe from winter), after sitting all night. And then when you start your car, the changer flips through the CD's, thinking power has just been re-introduced. I dunno, that's just my educated guess.

I had the same issue with mine last December. Turned out the battery was bad. Once I replaced the battery it stopped "recycling" every time I started the car.

This is one of the behaviors that occurs when the car battery begins to fail.

Listen closely - is your Mustang working a little harder to start than it used to?

If so, you may be adding yourself to the list of folks who are about to need the factory battery replaced.

My Shaker exhibited the same symptoms, just as the Mustang was getting juuuusssst slightly harder to start. The battery got worse. Had it replaced under warranty, and after that Shaker behavior returned to normal.

I know some folks have dealt with bad Shaker head units, of course. Mine works great. I burn my CD's at slower speeds, never at max speed. I get very high reliability from burned CD's as a result.

Just had it replaced before the holidays, along with the alternator.

The sad story:

Has been less than snappy on starts, but not hesitant...and it has been cold in the morning.

I'm hesitant to bring 'er down to the dealership, because the problem isn't consistent. I mean, the changer doesn't do it every time I start the car, nor does it do it only when the car's been sitting all night. Sometimes it does it after it's only been sitting for an hour or so. I hate going into my dealership sounding like some kind of idiot..."Well, I have this problem, but I can't figure out what it is, when it happens, or why..."
