I think all things being equal it comes down to driver ability in the end - to drive a manual properly you need to aquire the right 'feel' for the car you're driving - to nail those gear-changes perfectly every single time takes time and practice to master...with a well set-up Auto transmission, the car does all the thinking for you, freeing the driver up to concentrate on other things...a less experienced driver will perform more consistently in an auto than in a manual...an experienced manual driver should be equal in terms of speed, but will have to make more effort in his driving as he has more to think about, even subconciously...

Also, in my own experience, driving a manual car puts me more in touch with the 'feel' of the car than an auto - I feel that it's me driving it rather than the car's electronics doing all the work...when I get it right, I get a sense of accomplishment derived from my own driving skills rather than by having had the forsight to buy a car that does it all for me...
It's the main reason I own a Mustang rather than the BMW335i (semi-auto, flappy-paddle gears) that was also in the running...

No, im preety sure witht the extra 50hp the CS has it is faster. With that non fuctional side scoops and that killer front an rear bumper, the CS will run laps on the GT. Dont forget those racing side stripes or the 2 tone leather

You are correct. Specifically, Torch Red is the fastest.

Question Lower gears provide a torque advantage

3.55/1 gears will hold their slight torque advantage over the 3.31/1 gears in every gear, until easily over 120 miles per hour.

Lower gears don't loose their torque advantage until you run out of engine in high gear.

Yah, I wish I had 3:73s myself, although the Whipple helps compensate somewhat...

Of the 8 mustangs I've owned, 7 have been manual and 1 4-speed auto (really not very fun). The manuals have never been the most refined transmission, but the latest version in my '05 is the best. I like the control the manual offers because I like to think about what I'm doing and concentrate on driving when I'm driving. You know...rev matching and such. (that's not to insinuate that auto drivers do not think or concentrate, so no flaming please) It's just a personal preference. Having said that, I drove a friend's '06 with the auto and was really impressed with it's performance. I was pretty sure that when I ordered the '05, it would be the "keeper" and I would spend the years modding the snot out of it. I have to say, though, that if Ford mates a 6-speed DSG style transmission with manual control to the new 5.0 V8, I may be asking for forgiveness instead of permission from my wife.

By the way, everyone knows that Mineral grey is the fastest...that's why they don't offer it anymore..too fast.
