Black GT against my CS

Was out for lunch when this balck GT pulls behind me. Got to a light and pulls next to me...we took off side by side...neck to neck till around 60 and I started slowly creeping away from him until about 100. Got to the next light and chatted with the driver and he thought I had something extra in my car. His was a stock five speed with straight pipes...mine is stock auto...what gives? My guess is that he wasn't shifting right and my auto was right on the money.

BTW, I received my CAI from bamachips and will be installing it this weekend. I hope it's well worth the money.

The stock autos are tough to beat. They used to be a disadvantage, having only 4 gears and sucking power from the engine to run the tranny. Now with 5 gears, the gap has shortened. Every shift is right on, and no down time like a manual. Each manual shift is a fraction of second there is no power to the wheels.

Yup, and that's without any tunes. If I can improve that tranny lag I would have had him from the getgo. I guess I could have used the brake rev trick...but I hate being that mean to my CS.

To be honest, I think the reason my white auto CS was faster had to do with the hood scoop. His shifting hand must have been trembling from the mean look of the hood scoop

This sounds like a gearing issue. If the black GT was a 2005 or 2006, it has 3.55 gears while yours has 3.31 gears. Even if the black GT is a 2007, it still might have 3.55 gears. Thus you would have a slight advantage above 60 mph.

Interesting topic. I have heard this before about the auto being faster then the manual because of the shifting. What is the "brake rev trick"?

Mine was ordered with the manual. It may not be as fast, but you cant do this with an auto...

My wife chirps 3rd all the time in ours, if you know what I mean. And that's an Alternative Auto Tune.

Guys, I had always heard (and thought I'd read here as well) that a properly driven manual is faster than the automatic...due to: 1) Better launch capability and, 2) less weight....not trying to start a war here - but this is the 1st time I've read that all things be equal an auto was faster

Yup, that must be it. I do have 3.31 and the balck GT appeared to be an 07...like you said, probably 3.55s

No brake rev trick at all. Light turned green and I punched it. We were neck to neck until after 60 I started leaving him. I just installed a CAI with bamachips tune and I guarantee that he wouldn't be able to touch me now.

To answer your question the brake rev trick is where you hold down the brake and rev up the engine...then take off.
