Black GT against my CS
Timeslips
All my timeslips are on modular fords for my 07 GT/CS.Post was on 12-7-06, you can see stock, and tuned with just superchips 91 tune with K&N and a JLT. If you get better, more power to you but like i said i have not seen it.When someone can run the 13.3s with just that done i dont think that is that bad for an auto.
auto
side by side " shock" the auto is faster ,come on guys tell the truth at 75 miles hour,a auto will leave a five speed stick in the dust, put your foot on it at 100,a auto will go again, the test are out there also ,Roush has the 427R -auto,stock -doing the1/4 mile in the 12's...

People who want auto's can get auto's and people who enjoy stick can get a stick.
But thanks for bringing a thread back from the dead just to incite an argumentitive thread.
I hope I am not going outside the thread subject..
I have two friends with S2000 and 350Z (both manual transmission) who have raced Mustangs with automatic and manual transmission and both came with the same results:
- Automatic Mustangs: my friends were able to keep up with them upto 40-50 mph and then Mustang takes the head
- Manual Mustangs: my friends could not keep up with them from zero..
All cars were stock..
Since I was a kid, I knew a rule of thumb that manual transmission cars are faster than automatics (of the same brand and model) due to higher torque for manuals.. this is changing with manufacturers like Porsche (turbo) and Nissan (GTR35) since the automatic of these are faster than manual ones!!!
My preference for Mustang is manual.. this is why I am waiting until Aug to get it since my delaer has only automatics!!!
It is just an opinion and no offense to automatic Mustangs...

After owning 5 stick-shift Mustangs, I chose an automatic for my 07 GT. Why? 5 gears with gear spacing that is as good (maybe a tad bit better) than the manual trans. Also, a quick tune makes for one hell of a hard (and lightning quick) shift (I can bake the tires hard in 1st, spin the car sideways on the 1-2 shift, and chirp hard into 3rd). Stall converters are available for the 5R55S to make them launch as hard (or harder) than a stick shift (I have a 4,300 rpm stall converter). Super consistent at the track (I'm a diehard drag racer where consistency wins the money). I can individually select any of the 5 gears for when I hit any twisty back roads. And when I'm feeling lazy or faced with bumper to bumper traffic, I can just put it in Drive and relax. Sure, a stick shift is a little more entertaining (that's why I've always had them before), but the modern 5R55S trans is finally a worthy automatic for a Mustang.
There are actually a couple reasons why an automatic is performance-wise , the choice of drag race fanatics , Not only the speed of the shift, but also the full power at -shift with no loss of time with the shift , plus spot-on consistancy time after time . When you bracket race, consistancy is everything , That's what takes the prize money home at the end of the night . . Manual drivers not only have consistancy as a moving target , they don't have a torque converter to keep the engine at the peak of the power band . Manual cars have to climb through the power band and you shift a little past the peak of the power band -- more lost time ! But where a Manual car shines is on the street . They give a driver something to do. You can be creative with a manual car on the street . But, unless you hand-shift an automatic, they can be a real snore ! BORRRRRRRING ! !
You see I'm not the only one who thanks so,and I did say " Stock" ,what can you do at a 100 miles an hour plus with a stick???,you will be behind me,on the highway you will lose, 1/4 mile ,you will lose ,every time,be real !,
Since you mentioned it, what does your car run in the 1/4? Let's see the slip.

Edit: Also, I'm curious if you have heard of drivetrain loss or the effects of weight vs performance. (?)
Edit and Disclaimer: I am NOT bashing the Auto's at all. The 5-speed autos are great performers and fantastic for the people who decide to own and race them. Their consistency can't be beat. It's a choice for the owner of the vehicle to make, but to say that one would leave the other in the dust is ignorant.
Now, can we please let this internet race be over?

I test drove an auto GT and what I didn't like was the dead space hesitation when I pushed down on the pedal. That would drive me crazy; but then again I have been driving manuals for 20+ yrs, so maybe it would just be a matter of getting used to it.
Having owned a '06 Gt 5 speed, and then letting my wife trade it for a '07 GT/CS vert Auto. the Auto's are faster in the quarter, I don't care what shifter you have or how expeerinced you are, the auto computer controlled , left in Drive will shift faster than a manuel every time. How ever, she does have a 3:55 rear end in her car , just like my 5 speed did.

Please elaborate?
Please elaborate?
Two otherwise equal cars from the start the lower gears will have a distinct advantage, all the way through redline in high gear.
If the lower gears (in this case the 3.55's) have not reached redline in top gear, how will the taller gears (in this case the 3.31's) attain this slight advantage above 60 mph?

WHAT? 3.55 's in an automatic from the factory ?!

auto
In the issue of "May 2008-Mustang &Fast Fords" cover story ,a STOCK Roush 427R-mustang "AUTOMATIC" ran in the 12.20's best pass, with pass's in the 12.32 at 109.36 miles an hour, this is the same STOCK 5 speed auto in all the mustang GT's ,the stock auto will hold up to 435 hp,all day long, and all my replies are always sent repeatfully, facts are facts...
Richard, with no respect intended. WTF are you thinking? Because Roush used an auto tranny in the 427R that it means it's gods gift to racing? Get a clue.
