I didn't see this in the FAQ, so I figured I'd ask here...

We ordered our '06 with the active-anti theft..

When we picked it up, of course, they wanted to sell us a dealer added anti-theft (I only wanted the 100k extended waranty since we currently do over 25k miles on each daily driver vehicle)..

As I see it, the factory system has
Anti start using the pats (I guess that is actually a passive system)
Anti tow (detects changes in inclination)
ultrasonic (motion detection inside the vehicle)
door/hood/trunk sensors

So far, the only difference (add on) I see the dealer add on has is a shock sensor.

Are there more differences?? and is it worth the $600 they want (I figure I can have a decent audio shop install an aftermarket for less, including parts)..

Is this even an aswerable question or do different dealers install different systems?

thanks in advance...

~Mark

I wonder if you hung an air freshener inside one with the factory Anti- theft if it would work as a "Shock senser?"
"$600 for what?" would be my question!

The active anti theft system from the factory is really good imo. I wouldn't let the dealer talk you into anything extra, alarm wise.

The dealer installed one is from KARR SECURITY SYSTEMS..

I found the pamphlet and it the extra features I see are..
Active or Passive Arming..
Anti-Scan Microprocessor (I would think the ford one would already have that)
Automatic Starter Disable (isn't that what the Pats is for?)
Shock Sensor (2 stage... This is something the ford system doesn't have)
Horn Honk upon vilation (Ford system has that)
Blinking Led (ooooo.. fancy )
System Override - Valet Mode (not a big deal unless set to passive mode)
Cash Benifit Guarantee (pays up to $2k of ins. deducable)

Soo.. Unless I'm missing something.. the $600 will get us a different remote to use, shock sensor, passive arming and an LED and paid deductable.. I don't think that is worth the $600.. Unless you people think the factory system just isn't good enough..

I don't think that is worth $600

Stick with the factory system. The only reason I might get an aftermarket alarm, is if there was two-way paging. So few people pay any attention to a car alarm going off.

:notnice: I dropped the deal on our original early order the day of arrival because the GSM was adamant about installing an A/M on all 2005 Stangs. I will never buy anything from them.
