About aftermarket parts, did he mention about buying a SVT hood and installing it on a GT, or even taking the SVT engine and throwing it on the GT?

I'm just interested in the aftermarket crap mostly. From what I saw there was little to no room to do any mods.

Wow. Thank you Dustin. This has got to be one of the most informative threads in all of the 2005 Mustang's history here.

Well Said.

Thanks again!

I vote for making Dustin an honorary Bullitt member. Or give him a title like Sherlock or Holmes (might be more impressive with the ladies).

Oh one more thing the Ford guy said. They started (or finished I can't remember) training their 2nd shift at Flat Rock and in 2 weeks they are starting production of dealer demo cars. Kind of a pre-production run to get some publicity for the dealers I guess?
Dustin, these are usually the cars that they give to the car rags & newspapers. The idea is to have Mustang articles in the September car rag issues so they are on the magazine racks at the same time the 05 is in full production.

ETC?
Electronic Traction Control?
or something with the computer/
Electronic Throttle Control.

There is NO trottle cable on it, the TB is controlled by the computer. In one of the photos you can see the TB motor.

ETC allows them to do many things, such as link the trottle into traction control / stability control and allow them to do temperature compensation. You know how your car feels sluggish on hot humid days compared to a cold day. They have temperature / pressure compensation programmed in so the throttle responce feels the same no matter what the temperature or barometer is.

Dustin didn't post a photo of it, but one of the message center displays was "Advance Track OK".

There has not been any mention of A/T on the Mustang. It is Ford's stability control system that is available on some Lincoln models, like the LS. So it looks like there is provision for it in the 05 Stang and makes me wonder if - when they will offer it. Before you hard core guys lecture me about T/C & A/T, let me say that it works great. I had the opportunity to flog Lincoln LS's around both wet and dry autocross courses at on of Ford's proving grounds and A/T can save your a$$ big time in the wet or in snow or ice.

Its not a spot for a scoop. Its there so the engine will fit under the hood.
True, but it looks perfect for putting something there if that's what they have planned. I am wondering how they are going to fit a bigger engine like the 5.4 in this car if the 4.6 just about fits? [/b][/quote]
There is at least 4" between the sides of the 4.6 - 3V and the shock towers. The 4.6 DOHC will easily fit as will a 5.4 - 3V. I say that you could squeeze a 5.4 - 4V in there too, but it will be too tight for assembly on a production line. So I'd say only something like the Cobra R would get a 5.4 DOHC.

Height will be a problem with the 5.4, unless they go to a lower intake manifold, which is why I suspect that FL spy shot of the supposed Cobra has that huge hood budge. I bet they have either a 5.4 and / or a S/C in that test mule.

There is also ample room in front of the 4.6 engine too. Get the coolent overflow tank out of the way and a 5.8L V10 will easily fit in there.

Overall there are more electronics under the hood, but there is at least as much room under the hood at the SN-95 has.

As Dustin said, don't worry about the engine cover, I'm sure that you will be able to get one from Ford Parts or Ford Racing once the SE's come out.

One more comment, look at the under hood photo and pay attention to the brake fluid resivoir. IT IS HUGE. It's 3 times the size of the resivoir on most new cars. I'd say that the Ford engineers put in a lot of time working on the brakes.

A new 6.2L engine is planned for the F-150.

So the 5.4 should be going into the '05 in some form! Why? I have no idea . . . just makes good business sense!!

Obviously the SVT designs aren't finalized, so who knows. And like I said before, the engine bay is bigger in person and was designed in consideration to give room for any and all future upgrades.

I showed up around 7:30, and the event was slowing down. Some additional nuggets:

- The red on red matches really well, to my eye. Not exactly, but it certainly doesn’t clash with the redfire. The mix of red & black inside is nice, and it’s definitely not ‘too much red’. The leather and silver trim is high quality.

- The rear leg room is minimal, but I talked to the Ford manager, and he admitted that Mustangs have never been about back seats. Two kids could fit back there with the seats moved up a bit. The coupe back seat headroom is tight for adults. The Ford guy said the convertible will have adult-type headroom in the back. Also, the convertible back seat will be different (due to the flip-down seat back in the coupe), but the convertible top will not require any additional room. The rake of the back seat will be the same in all Mustangs. One of the poorest design features of the Camaro convertible was a modified rear seat rake. It was almost straight upright, and turned a tight rear seat space into a joke.

- The GT with an automatic is all the power you’d ever need on the street, in the engineer’s option. The V6 with an auto will not lack at all for power either.

- The decision to split the introduction of the coupe and convertible had to do with launching a higher quality car. The team’s resources are finite, so the convertible was put off to focus on the coupe. I didn’t confirm whether the convertible top also had some engineering problems that needed to be worked out. Overall, Ford seemed to be aware of and concerned about quality, and seems determined to build and launch a seamless, Lexus-type vehicle (Upgraded materials + no quality bugs).

- Prices of $20k (V6) and $25k (GT) were quoted (give or take). No convertible pricing is available at all.

- The car is well proportioned. To me, the 04 gives the impression that the body and frame are mismatched in size. The 05 is a clean design, just like the 65 Mustang, 63 Vette, and other vehicles that have a complete and balanced design. It is a full size larger than the 65 Stang.

- The car in the above pictures, along with all the other pre-production 05s running around now, are all destined for the crusher in the Fall.

Dustin...can you clarify something for me. Are the holes for the front plates actual holes or are they just like little dimples?

They are dimples that mark the locations for your dealer to drill holes for the front license plate bracket.

I plan on packing up and moving to a state without front tags before I get my 05 or 06 GT.
