Do you know if that 350z was an auto or stick? If it is an auto then you'd have a little over one second advantage on it. If it was a stick then about a half second. Either is a nice kill. I eat auto 350z's for lunch in my Accord and can run about even with a stick.

my 01 with 3:73's, cold air, underdrive pullies, tune, throttle body, upper plenium, upper and lower control links, aluminum flywheel, etc is no match for an 05.

I raced a 03 stang...only mod was cold air induction. He kicked my 2005 Mustang GT Premium butt! I had him in first gear, but second gear hits redline way too soon!!!! I shift to 3, he is still in 2nd and long gone.................what the heck?!?

Redline starts at 6, but the computer lets you get to about 7, then kicks it down.
Don't get me wrong guys, I went from 0-90mph twice...(vs 03 stang and 350Z) it's not like I am trying to break the thing. Just wanted to see what she would do. I didn't push her to the limit.
I also didn't know that the Traction Control system was on automatically, and didn't take that off before I raced. I wonder how much of a factor this was??! Anyone know?

It can be a huge factor...cut fuel/timing
If the traction control kicks in...it'd cut power for a second, then kickback in.
Feel anything like that?
And the TCS light would come on...warning you that it was on.

Sitting in a hot Mustang does not make you a John Force. Cool it man Break that engine in then get someone that knows to teach you how to drive.I did Today I picked up my GT and will pamper it for a while then I will see what it will do. Maybe after several thousand miles. I pushed it a little today but I don't think it will ever measure up to my past cars with small blocks and rat motors but then I may no longer be able to control all that power. True statement reactions way too slow !!
Beware someday you might run up next to and old has been in a redfire Explorer and show him your tail when the light changes but it will not be the same story at the next one. Hee He you are about to be spanked bad !! Some things are not as they seem !! Like maybe a fake single tail pipe . Automatic also.

Here's a good site for breaking in motors and the one I use. Too soft of driving at first hurts your HP IMO. Of course you don't want to beat it to death either.

Doesn't the engine need a few hundred miles to warm up and properly lubricate before it reaches is full potential?

Play it smart, don't wreck your new toy.

I've seen cars with a 100 horsepower disadvantage win in a street race. An 03 Mustang GT does not have a 100 horsepower disadvantage, and he probably knows how to drive his car to the limit, whereas you just got yours. Don't get too cocky with the 05, I've talked to a lot of 04 and earlier Mustang owners that are just itching to play with the new 05 GT's as they hit the roads, and they aren't playing fair...
