Owned by a window switch
Yes folks. I'll admit a misdiagnosis when it's a good one. And this is still a wtf deal to me.
So, right rear quarter window quit working a couple weeks ago. Stuck in the up position. Stuck a couple times going down and up before that. Just posting this to possibly help anyone else that runs into this problem.
Diagnosis:
1: Window stuck up position. Window switch clicks like normal.
2: Test light in hand and window switch pulled out of panel. Test light to ground, back probe the two wires from switch. Down, lights up. Up, lights up.
3: Ok pull the seat, light bar, side panel. Tap on the window motor while pressing down function,(nuthin). Unplug wire connector, jumper wires in both wire terminals connected to test light. Up, lights up. Down, lights up. Has to be the motor right? Unfortunately NO.
4: replaced the motor. Tested it, no up no down. Wtf?
5: pulled the window switch. Still lighting up the test light both ways. Took switch apart. Switch now exposed copper internals. Press the copper contact without the button top panel. Down she goes. Up contact here she comes up. Swapped buttons from the top panel. Still not working. Totally scratching my head but the switch is definitely bad. Just don't understand how it lights up a test light, won't power the motor, but works when the button panel is off.
Just chalk this one up to a whooping but hope it helps anyone with a window motor issue.

Hmm. going by the test you did I would have no doubt gone the same route. The only thing I can think off is made enough contact/voltage to light the test light but maybe not enough was going down to the motor
. glad you got it figured out.

Yeah man. Completely left me scratching my head. Only thing I didn't do is swap wire terminals from left to right on the switch but I think it's safe to call it a switch. Never had a switch do that to me.
Motor was only $50 so I'll just leave the new one in there. Lol

I hate electrical stuff myself, it does funny things and has sent me in a few wacky directions before and made me want to pull my hair out ( being nice
) atleast you know you have a new window motor
