Inner tie rods

I went to Ken towery to get a front end alignment and they told me about 20 minutes later that they could not do it due to loose inner tie rods. And then told me they could fix it for an outrageous price. I started hearing a clicking noise by my tie rods immediately after that. What could they have done to manipulate my tie rods?

It's an inner tie rod. They are not hard to replace on your own. You can get them from LRS for $35 each.
