Seems like there should be a used one in a junkyard somewhere cheaper than that.

I hate to replace my A/C compressor with 70,000 miles with a used one; I'd rather pay once than twice, and this one has a 12-month warranty.

I concur... and shouldn't you be able to order the bearing by itself? It might come with a few other pieces you don't need, but it'll be a heckuva lot cheaper than replacing the whole unit.

I am sure the compressor he is getting is remanufactered anyways.

I have the time and tools, but it is still a PITA to change that bearing, to get a mechanic to do it will probably cost the same as having him replace the entire unit.

Yeah, I guess I forgot that not everyone works on their own cars. Forgot about the old mechanic.

$1,000.00??? WOW!! I guess you never know when you're getting a lemon on your a/c. I've had my '96 Cobra since june '97 and I've never even had it recharged. Still blows as cold as the day I brought her home. I feel for ya Brad! Hey Ford!! Do something for this man! Look at all he's done for you! Don't you guys know how to take care of your own?

How much is a compressor from advance or autozone? heck man its nothing to change a compressor out . Your gonna get the same if not better warranty through them. Buying anything like that through ford is a rip off. The only way I would ever take my car to a dealership for is if its still under warranty.

Brad,

I can get the compressor for $165.21/new or $146.65 reman. The new one comes with a 1 year warrenty with the replacement of the dryer which is $63.00. It is recomended to replace the dryer any time you replace the compressor.
