Ford dealer says it's going to be $900. :crying:

Scothew 8/11/04 01:48 PM

yours go out?

gokbgo 8/11/04 01:59 PM

Seems like there should be a used one in a junkyard somewhere cheaper than that.

conv_stang 8/11/04 02:27 PM

one for my 92 was like 380 at advanceauto! cheaper to jack someone elses from their car! LOL J/K

I hate to replace my A/C compressor with 70,000 miles with a used one; I'd rather pay once than twice, and this one has a 12-month warranty.

conv_stang 8/11/04 02:38 PM

shame ford wont replace it for you. man an air copressor going bad at 70k stinks! oh, did you check your fuses??? thought mine was bad, just a loose fuse

Scothew 8/11/04 02:55 PM

Brad, what is the symptoms????

TMSBrad 8/11/04 03:00 PM

Bad rattle from compressor. Still blows cold air.

Scothew 8/11/04 03:20 PM

hmm. yeah sounds like a bearing.

Dr Iven 8/11/04 03:30 PM

I concur... and shouldn't you be able to order the bearing by itself? It might come with a few other pieces you don't need, but it'll be a heckuva lot cheaper than replacing the whole unit.

I am sure the compressor he is getting is remanufactered anyways.

I have the time and tools, but it is still a PITA to change that bearing, to get a mechanic to do it will probably cost the same as having him replace the entire unit.

Dr Iven 8/11/04 08:18 PM

Yeah, I guess I forgot that not everyone works on their own cars. Forgot about the old mechanic. :nice:

REDFIRESNAKE 8/15/04 10:29 PM

$1,000.00??? WOW!! I guess you never know when you're getting a lemon on your a/c. I've had my '96 Cobra since june '97 and I've never even had it recharged. Still blows as cold as the day I brought her home. I feel for ya Brad! Hey Ford!! Do something for this man! Look at all he's done for you! Don't you guys know how to take care of your own? :dunno:

Andy Haynes 8/16/04 10:42 AM

How much is a compressor from advance or autozone? heck man its nothing to change a compressor out . Your gonna get the same if not better warranty through them. Buying anything like that through ford is a rip off. The only way I would ever take my car to a dealership for is if its still under warranty.

Most of that cost is labor.

Ford Parts Network says its cheaper!

sscobra 8/16/04 05:03 PM

Brad,

I can get the compressor for $165.21/new or $146.65 reman. The new one comes with a 1 year warrenty with the replacement of the dryer which is $63.00. It is recomended to replace the dryer any time you replace the compressor.
