T5 Fluid

Is it possible for transmission to whine if the incorrect fluid was put in the T5?

I put royal purple synchro max in there and from what I understand Im suppose to put Dexron / Mercon III ATF. thanks.

The T5 uses ATF and uses Dexron III like you stated. I know that RP states you can use it but I would run a high quality ATF which is totally fine for the tranny has a 1step but I also suspect you may have other issues.

The only reason the non- wc takes straight 50W now is because dextron II is no longer available and it was a thick formula ATF. The non -wc originally used dextron II ATF, you can use ATF in the non -wc but there would be increased wear. This is due to there being no bearing under each gear and the bronze synchro rings. The WC was used by Ford in 1985 in mustangs, fairmonts, etc both V8 and 4cyls, older stuff had the non -wc so running across them isn't has common.

I just like to throw that in. I have seen a few guys run into non s/c 4 banger trannies. I think because they are a little easier to find in the boneyard.

LOL. I try my best to pass on info.

I wouldn't use a 4cyl T5 behind anything but a 4cyl, they are very weak and a stock V8 can break them.

I wouldn't either. You can get away with it on a stock build but that's about it. Plus the gearing is different. :good:

Gearing is different for starters but I still wouldn't use a 4cyl T5 even on a stock build imo.

I wouldn't either. But then again I wouldn't be doing a stock build. . May as well do it right the first time.
