I am looking to put a cold air kit on the 91 LX I bought last month. I want one that goes into the fender to pull the cooler air in. What is the best one to go with in everyone else's experience?

I bought the BBK cold air pipe, and the darn thing hits the wheel tower and comes loose... and then to top it off, it came loose a few times and popped off on the expressway (I was obeying the speed limit of course ) when I tightened the clamp on the throttle body and it eventually ripped through the silicone connector. I called BBK and they said if I didn't save the receipt I had to pay like $20 for the connector... darn it! I put the original OEM hose back on and left the K&N filter. No problems anymore... not pretty, but no problems

I sell and install MAC's....I don't care for the pop riveted BBK nameplate on their units....seen one lose a rivet and you can guess where part of that rivet went....no noticeable damage but I don't like even a remote chance of something like that entering the engine

Wow... losing a rivet in the intake can be serious... now I'm really convinced this thing was designed badly. Do they really have to advertise on the intake tube?

One that works. (Do they still make those?)

Seriously-Buy a March Performance Fresh Air Kit, It draws cold air from down near the bumper

Who's got 'em for a good price? I was looking at this set-up for my 89.

The drawback to drawing air low is the potential for water ingestion resulting in catastrophic engine failure if enough is ingested. There is plenty of the same cold air gathered from inside the fender without as much risk of inhaling something bad.

We've replaced a few engines because of Ram Air kits or similarly low mounted air intakes stinking water into the engine. Just did a '00 V6 stang last week that got a bent rod from water ingestion.

Just don't set the intake piece of it so low, and put a screen in it, to stop the water. Here is the link http://www.performancedepot.com/productdis...loc=101&dealer=

You could also get a K&N filter instead, But I would recomend this one.

A screen is not going to stop the water....only leaves and larger debris. I'm not talking about rainwater....I'm talking about hitting standing water or puddles.

Here is a pic with the stock air tube on the car... look how close . I don't know if the aftermarket throttle body and EGR spacer is longer or what ? I was looking at the throat of the GT40 manifold and it seems shorter. I am not sure if it is true. It looks like with a GT40 manifold the EGR spacer and throttle body are farther away from the shock tower. Any one have pics or knowledge of this? I am going to take pics with the BBK ait tube on so I can show how close that is too. c:

The air tubes are always going to be close but should not touch the shock tower...nothing abnormal there.

As far as one being better over the other there is no dyno or other proof to support that claim. The BBK and MAC are nearly identical and there is no way scientific or otherwise that one could be better performance wise over the other....look at it rationally and look at the design and that becomes obvious. I personally don't care for the riveted nameplate....one because of the rivets into the air tube and second because unless someone is paying me, I am not advertising for them....the second is my personal feelings, I want a clean engine compartment or otherwise and don't want 50 names plastered over everything. If the part is given to me or I am paid to advertise it is one thing but don't force it on me.

Most of you guys are on a budget as are all of us working on our cars regardless of age. Don't buy into advertising hype to spend more than you need to. If a part is inferior then stay away from it...otherwise get your best value for the same performing part.....just some advice from someone in the business
