i just bought a stock 88gt 5 speed, what can i do for more performance, the car is gonna be a weekend car to have fun in, i have 2000 to put into it

I would like to also add that if you just bought the car, have you done the basics to it first (might affect your budget)- i.e.- the condition of the tires, spark plugs, wires, etc? On my 88, the wiring and vacuum lines are also starting to show their age.

 

I agree, you had several good answers in your other thread so whats the point of making a new one?

Save your money until you have enough for a blower.....

 

does anyone know what the biggest cam i can use for a speed density car. i found out itll cost 2000 to switch to mass air and id rather use the money for more power, like heads cam or nos

 

Who the hell told you 2000 bucks for mass air conversion????? Somebody's trying to rip you off BIG TIME!

Even with labor costs I don't think the total should be anywhere near 2 grand. I believe the swap is fairly easy and could be done yourself, the most time consuming part is probably accessing the computer in the passenger side kick panel. In my opinion you don't NEED mass air until you swap cams, but it would be good to have MAF first. Just so you know there are a few guys on stangnet running different heads and other work and still have SD.

 

If you want to save even more cash, go the DIY route and hit up the salvage yard or check classifieds for people parting out mass air components when they step up their combos. Lots of info on the 'net in this regard too. That $2k makes what I paid for my mass air conversion kit look like a downright bargain (all new parts too). It was pretty much in the range that Valentino mentioned.

I know the holley systemax setup is nice, my buddy just put that whole kit on his '92 during the winter (upper lower intake, heads, cam, timing chain etc)...I know its especially good if you're looking to eventually either put a supercharger on your motor and use nitrous...he used it on a brand new block
