White smoke (help)
So I recently purchased a 67 Mustang 289 2V Coupe. Yay for me! Well I have white smoke coming out the tail pipes. When I get on it or just rev the engine the smoke is more apparent. Drove the car over 80 miles, car drives fine no issues other than the smoke and it runs very hot! Car starts right up every time just turn the key, idles fine drives fine. I checked the plugs today looked like normal wear to me but each plug did have oil on them. Need help! Thanks

Sounds like a head gasket (water) leak.
The white smoke usually indicates water in the cylinder and the higher temp. means exhaust gases in coolant and/or lack of coolant.
Black smoke is usually oil related.
As the problem continues, you may find one plug getting "cleaner".
That would be the side to pull the head if the gasket is blown.

Black smoke = too much gas
Bluish smoke = oil burning
White smoke = water being burnt.
Make a compression test to see how the cylinders are sealing. And due to the hint you gave us that it runs hot, I suspect a blown head gasket. Is the engine oil colored like nesquick? Or if there's oil on the cooling system? Those are symptoms of a blown head gasket.

does anyone anyone know any good sites with good how to's on changing head gaskets? or a good place to get detailed info on changing them with the proper steps and torquing?
Thanks

So I changed the following so far:
Spark plugs
oil
A kit that came with all clamps hoses and a 3 row radiator. I purchased separately the following:
Thermostat w/new gasket -160 degrees
New rubber hoses for the automatic cooling lines
16lbs radiator cap with pressure relief
Still have white smoke billowing out of the tailpipes mainly the driver side. I did notice that the distributor was slightly loose and was able to move by hand with moderate force. So my next step is to check the timing and adjust the carb. See what happens after that if no significant changes I will take the car to a local shop for a professional diagnosis.
Smoke does not smell sweet or like coolant at all, more like oil burning

sounds like the modulator valve, looks like you are fogging for bugs when you drive. you will not normaly see any leaks with a bad valve just a lot of smoke. Had the porblem with an older car, tried to replace it my self but was too young to know what I was doing...easy fix at the local shop.

UPDATE: Took the car to the shop today had the timing and carb adjusted. The smoke is blue smoke not white looked white to me but is definitely blue. The shop did a compression test results were 140-145 all the way around. Car is running much better and smoke is less visible at times.
So basically where I am at now is just going to pull the engine and trany to start a ground up resto mod. I will probably start a fresh thread to document my progress but it will be slow going, since I plan on doing most of the work. Plus I'm not a millionaire

Wish me luck

It is a fine line between the color of smoke. It is very hard to tell when it is blue or white. So with it being blue that would be oil. Since the plugs had oil on them it sounds like it might be the rings starting to wear out and letting oil past them.
What weight of oil do you use in it??

OUCH!!!
Yeah, mine was smoking before I had the engine rebuilt. I had one cylinder that was at 140, and I think the lowest it should be is 135?
An oil treatment might help for right now. But, you're probably looking at having to rebuild your engine.
