what will fit
I have a 66 mustang with a six cylinder and would like a v-8 don't know what will fit in there. are there any donor car's that i could use a engine and trans out of. looking for a cheap way of doing it.
hmm and 289 or 302 (5.0) or 351W (5.8) out of a truck or mustang should fit. although a 351W may need a taller bonnet... not sure though.
the only V8s that wont fit are the clevleand, the 390/427/428 and the 429/460 adn all them biggn's. theres alot involved in a I6 to V8 swap.
IMO, the best thing to do is find yourself a wrecked fox 5.0 and take all the stuff u need, like the brakes n stuff to go with the engine, as well as the engine and trans.
good luck

You're first order of business will have to be changing out the front and rear suspensions, brakes, etc. The 6 cylinder cars use different, much smaller components and won't support the weight or power of a V8 safely.
Read this: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/3...ecial/6to8.htm
It will give you a complete list of what needs to be done first.
As for engines, 289 & 302 will drop right in. 351W & 351C will fit with some minor modifications. Although the 351C is tight, it will fit without cutting the shock towers.
5.0 from a late model Mustang, Crown Vic, etc is also a nice replacement and will essentially drop in by using a carburetor instead of the fuel injection.
The front brakes from a Fox body WILL NOT fit early cars. They used a completely different front suspension set up.
The 8.8 rear will fit but will need to have leaf spring perches welded on and the housing may be a tad too wide. If you want to go this route then I'd suggest doing extensive research and measuring before diving in.

Josh is right on of this one. I would add that a 90-93 5.0 donor is the best. The guts of the engine are fantastic for higher hp due to its forged pistons, better crank and a roller cam. Not to mention that if it is a stick you want the T5 is a great choice. You need to keep in mind the bigger the block the heavier. Personally, I would stick to a 302, stroke it and SC if needed. It will be plenty fast
Also, with modifying the shock towers, any motor will fit. The engine bay dimension for a 65-70 are identical except for the shock tower widths.
