I've gone back and forth about my transmission on my 68 project, but over the past few months decided to keep the 4 sped toploader that came in my car when I bought it. The tranny has motor oil all over the top of it, due to a nasty leaky, motor that the car had in it.

I need advice on the best way to clean the transmission up. I want to clean it up, then hit it with a spray paint product from Eastwood to make it look new again. I'm thinking start with solvent to break down the oil.......anyone have some suggestions?

 

Brake Cleaner & a wire brush...

 

goo-b-gone if it is light. Brake cleaner or Dawn dish detergent if it is heavier.

After further review, I think you should just give up on the whole project and sell it to me! After all, you don't really want to use a transmission that has had oil leaked on it do you?
