2014 Mustang details are starting to arrive...

Okay, so we all know that 2014 will be a carryover of the 2013's, but what will be different? I've done a little digging into the 2014 Mustang order banks to see what's different.

Colors: Ruby Red (RR) replaces Red Candy (RZ). Oxford White (YZ) replaces Performance White (HP).

Base V6 100A & 101A: New option called "V6 Appearance Package," option code 541.

Premium V6 200A, Pony Package 202A, and MCA Edition 203A: No changes that I can find.

Premium V6 201A: Hood Stripe, option code 471.

Base GT 300A & 301A: New option called "GT Appearance Package," option code 542.

Premium GT 400A & 401A: No changes that I can find.

GT/CS 402A: Colors limited to Deep Impact Blue, Race Red, Black, Sterling Gray, Ingot Silver, and Oxford White.

Boss 302 500A & Laguna Seca 501A: Missing, so it appears to be true that the Boss 302 was a 2 year run only ('12 & '13).

Shelby GT500: Matte Black stripes replaced by Gloss Black stripes.

That's it for now, but I'm sure we'll get more info in the next few months. Ford shows the 2014 Order Banks opening on November 12, 2012 with 2014 scheduling to start on December 6, 2012. 2013 Mustang production ends on January 11, 2013 with 2014 production to begin shortly thereafter.

Interesting. Wonder what those appearance packages are going to be composed of? Maybe some Boss components like the rear fascia and insert?

Based on that info, I suppose we can "assume" the 2015 will start production in Nov 2013. Based on the color pallet, for the CS, I will be keeping my Red Candy GT/CS, for now.

I find it almost funny that Ford can protect the design secrets of the next gen Mustang better then the feds can protect government secrets.

Oxford instead of Performance White?

My wife's Escape is Ruby Red and right away I thought that would look good on the Mustang.

It's possible for ORDERING not assembly to start, but I would put even that out into early 2014 to get the timing closer to April 17 for consumers to be taking delivery.

Is Oxford White metallic? Ruby Red is a much better metallic red color IMO. I never cared for the Red Candy on the 10+ cars.

Oxford White is not metallic. It is the boring "appliance" white that Ford has used on Econoline Vans and basic work trucks forever.

Ruby Red is a nice color on every 2013 Ford & Lincoln that I've seen it on. It'll look nice on the '14 Mustangs. Would love to see an even darker red on Mustangs someday, though, like Dark Toreador Red or Bordeaux Red that Ford and Lincoln have used on other vehicles in recent times.

Oh, yawn. I was hoping for a metallic white for a change. I also think Tuxedo Black would be a great color on the current car, in addition to the standard black.

Seriously. I would take a metallic white in a heartbeat.

Always thought the S197 would suit a creamy white, as seen on the new MINIs

To bad if thats true, the Boss really punches above its weight and (IMO) the best value in the whole line up.

Maybe it will make a return in 2015 or 2016, it would be a real shame to let the road-runner wither on the vine unless Ford was thinking about making it the next gen GT engine (how **** cool would that be!)

I was very surprised to not find the Boss 302 in the '14 order banks. Maybe it just isn't uploaded there yet? I've been speculating (and hoping) for quite some time that the Boss 302 would be a yearly staple in the Mustang line up.

As you noted, perhaps the next gen GT will inherit the Boss engine to keep things fresh. Wouldn't surprise me to see the 3.5L EcoBoost become another '15+ GT engine choice, as well.

Boss 351, with a naturally aspirated version of the 5.8. After the next gen of the Mustang is introduced is my guess.

No. There has been no evidence to support a NA 5.8 was ever designed or created. Let it go.

Brian, any details on the appearance packages other than their declaration?

No details, just a declaration of their being offered, as you noted. However, in recent years, an option code starting with 54 (i.e. 541 and 542 in this case) referred to simple stripe, wheel, and/or scoop upgrades. For example, I owned a 2000 Mustang "Spring Feature" GT Coupe once upon a time. That Spring Feature package was option code 54X. The 2001 Mustang Bullitt was a GT with option code 54B. So, I suspect that the '14 Appearance Packages will likely be some sort of stripe or fascia kind of offering.

I love how Tuxedo Black explodes in sunlight with pixels of teal & purple when you look very closely at it. And, it hides scratches and swirls so easily versus regular black that shows every last little tiny imperfection. It really should be a Mustang offering!
